BelgianSpur – You are obviously a “glass half empty” person when it comes to Spurs. Yes it could go either way. But we have a manager who is clearly improving many of the players he’s inherited, although Dele and N’Dombele are probably lost causes. If it all comes off we are a lot more than “OK”, we are in the champions league. That’s something I don’t think any of us would have thought possible when Conte arrived. The point is we have a lot to gain and nothing to lose.

jod – is it looking at the situation as a “glass half empty” , or is it merely a question of not getting ahead of ourselves and being realistic?

Let’s face it, we have a history in recent years of dropping the ball in big moments. Past performance isn’t always a surefire way of predicting future results, but to disregard that recent history altogether, or discount it competely, seems foolish to me. Aftert all it is largely the same group of players in that dressing room.

Top 4 would be fantastic but there’s still a long way to go and misplaced over confidence is our biggest enemy.

You claim we have nothing to lose, but nothing could be further from the truth. If we collapse second half and finish 8th, will Conte stay? It could quickly unravel and the situation may yet take a turn for the worse.

It’s important that the team stay focused, and that the club’s management don’t get a false sense of security from our current league form. The club have been guilty of this in the past, failing to invest in the squad on the back on a fortuitous CL run. That CL run papered over a lot of cracks which had started to appear long before.

Conte has identified weaknesses in the squad, and said so clearly. He needs to be listened to, because the current run is a small sample size and may not be representative. Conte has earned a voice through his achievements and place in world football, and it is time for the club’s management to finally listen to their coach. If they’re not going to listen to Conte, who are they going to listen to?

There’s still 10 days or so in the window for the club to make a statement. Reassure Conte that he will be listened to and backed. Psychologically, I think it’s improtant to convey that message to all stakeholder of the club alike.
