Reports have suggested that the Lilywhites may look to bolster their attacking options in the forthcoming January transfer window by signing Atletico Madrid winger, Yannick Carrasco.
Carrasco’s name was recently in news following his dramatic missed penalty, which sent his side out of the Champions League. That miss meant Atletico missed out on the €9.6 million worth of prize money, for reaching the knock-out stages.
This comes at a bad time for Los Rojiblancos as Spanish publication AS (via Football.London) stated the club have “got themselves in trouble” financially. This in turn has led to many Atletico players – who were once not made available by the club – to be put in the shop window, to raise funds.
This has now opened the door to Spurs who are no stranger to links with the winger, with the North-London side apparently coming close to a deal last summer.
Recently, there have been rumours coming out of Madrid that the club now regret snubbing Tottenham’s interest in the player – according to Marca via HITC.
With the Belgian struggling so far this season, only grabbing 3 goal contributions in 17 appearances.
Despite his poor form this season, the winger’s quality is still clear as he has notched 28 goal contributions in 64 league appearances, over the past two seasons.
Should Spurs sign Yannick Carrasco?
YES
NO
Carrasco’s quality on the ball is the main reason for his plaudits with him ranking in the top 5% of wingers (across Europe’s top five leagues) for dribble success rate – getting past his man 60.6% of the time. This blows current Spurs winger Dejan Kulusevski out of the water, with the Swede only beating his man 47.9% of the time.
As well as playing on both sides of the attacking third, Carrasco can also deputise at wing-back – which Conte will surely approve of.
Conte is said to be looking for ‘readymade’ players in January to boost his squad’s options – Carrasco surely fits this requirement.
