Spurs drop interest in Serie A pair?

|

As stated in this article about Franck Kessie, the midfield area has proven to be an awkward one for Antonio Conte and Tottenham Hotspur.

This has led to links with a host of midfielders plying their trade in the continent, not least Serie A, a league that Conte and Fabio Paratici know all too well.

Indeed, Spurs’ links with Serie A midfielders have been a constant theme of transfer talk surrounding Hotspur Way, and Spurs’ long-standing interest in Juventus pair Adrien Rabiot and Weston McKennie has been well documented (see article on those Rabiot links here and Spurs’ interest in McKennie here).

However, an interesting report last night from London World stated now that Spurs have dropped their interest in the pair, and, as well as stepping up their interest in Kessie, have turned their attention to Bristol City youngster Alex Scott.

19-year-old Scott, who was involved in England Under-19s’ successful involvement in the Euros in Israel over the summer with Spurs’ Alfie Devine and Dane Scarlett, has a contract that does not expire until 2025, giving Bristol City the power to demand an exorbitant fee for the Guernsey lad, but that has not dissuaded a host of Premier League clubs from queueing up for his services.

Indeed, Bristol World report that as well as Spurs, Wolves, Manchester United, and Leicester City are all interested in Scott, giving the indication that Scott’s future lies away from Ashton Gate.

As far as Spurs’ interests go, it would not surprise me if we were interested in a ‘Dele Alli’ or ‘Pape Sarr’ type of deal, where we make an offer to buy Scott but loan him back for a certain amount (6-18 months) to his parent club to allow him to develop through playing first-team football.

However, the club’s links to established first-team professionals like Rabiot, McKennie, and Kessie and Conte’s desperation to secure a top-four finish would indicate that a more experienced midfielder would be more fitting for our January plans.
