Spurs Blow It As VAR Again Proves It’s Unfit For Purpose – Match Stats

|

It’s been a busy old September for Tottenham Hotspur fans and today’s clash with Newcastle United at White Hart Lane will likely see more rotation by manager Jose Mourinho as he tries to keep everyone fit and fresh given our glut of matches so far.

It was a blistering start with Spurs straight on the attack and how we weren’t 1-0 up in the third minute is beyond me as Darlow pulled off a fantastic run of quick saves starting with Lo Celso’s freekick and then Harry Kane’s follow up.

This was promising and good chances kept coming!

We finally made it count as Kane crossed in and Lucas Moura slipped it into the back of the net – 1-0 – and surely more to come?

1-0 at the break but we really should’ve seen Kane and Sonny on the scoresheet, could we make that happen in the final 45?

Well, it was one way traffic again and Spurs had their swagger back but plenty of chances coming our way, but Darlow was in the form of his life in goal. Going into the final 25 minutes we were almost in double figures for efforts on goal, and they hadn’t tested Hugo Lloris once by this stage.

With the game drawing to an end, we hadn’t added to our advantage and we’d had a cast-iron penalty appeal turned away with neither the ref, nor VAR, being friendly (or competent) and then we had an almighty calamity at the back, but thankfully the rebound went wide.

Then it all changed, a handball by Eric Dier was looked at for about 30 minutes before Callum Wilson had the chance from the spot in the 96th minute (despite only having five minutes of stoppage time awarded).

A total shambles – Jose storms off – but the truth is, we should’ve been five or six goals clear at that point, but we were robbed by their only shot on target.

It then got worse after the final whistle as the referee showed a red card to an irate Kane for something he said. Or was it Kane – nobody seems to know? Let’s ask VAR that’ll clear it up!
