With it turning into a disappointing week for Tottenham Hotspur fans following Champions League disappointment as well as defeat to Leicester City at the weekend, tonight’s clash with Colchester United in the third round of the EFL Cup was just what the Doctor ordered to provide a distraction and maybe, just maybe, see a little bit more of highly rated Academy prospect Troy Parrott.
And we did, the 17-year-old was in the starting lineup alongside Oliver Skipp and Japhet Tanganga as manager Mauricio Pochettino rotated the pack fully.
Going into the half time break, the scores were tied at 0-0. We’d dominated 75% of the ball and the hosts hadn’t had a single effort at goal, but despite eight attempts, only one from us had gone on target.
In the second half we also failed to make a breakthrough, despite bringing on our big hitters for the young lads, so the game went to penalties.
Colchester Pens:
Norris scores, Nouble scores, Brown saved, Cowan-Hall scores, Lapslie scores.
Spurs Pens:
Eriksen saved, Alli scores, Lamela scores, Sonny scores, Lucas Moura woodwork.
Colchester win 4-3 on penalties.
