Tottenham Hotspur have extended the tenure of striker Robbie Keane who put pen to paper on a four year contract.

Hopefully this will be enough to stop the papers constantly linking the new Republic of Ireland captain with moves to other clubs, although knowing the press, I doubt it.

Keane has scored 8 premiership goals for us this season with a record of 54 goals in 145 games since his move from Leeds United.

He told the official site: ‘You’ve got me for another four years. It is something that has been going on for a while, I am just happy it is now signed and I can look forward to a good future with Tottenham.’

He also says the club are ‘going places’ adding ‘Everything is geared towards the future and me signing this new contract is an another example of that.’

And he hasn’t forgotten the White Hart faithful: ‘I’ve been lucky enough since I signed in that the fans have been tremendous to me. This is also my way of thanking them for their support. I am looking forward to the next four years now with Tottenham and the gaffer.’

Martin Jol is also hoping the constant speculation will now stop saying ‘We want to keep our best players and Robbie is certainly an influential player. All the speculation can stop now’

Great news for Spurs.

Robbie started his top level career with Wolverhampton Wanderers in the 97 /98 (24 goals) before moving to Coventry City for one season 99/00 (12 goals). He then had a very short spell at Inter Milan before moving to Leeds United (13 goals) in 00/01.
