Vital Spurs asked whether White Hart Lane should be re-named following the article about potential sponsor renaming. Full article: Click Here

56% said that White Hart Lane should never be renamed, full stop. 29% said at the very least White Hart Lane should form part of the name and 11% suggested that it could be re-named as long as the money was good enough. Only 4% said they didn’t care as long as we won.

Seems history does matter to the fans and the comments below back that up:

Hotspur 61 said:

‘Having WHL as only part of the name would allow them to remove it totally at a later date. Money isn’t everything and although Spurs trade too much on their history, they do TRADE on it. Selling the naming rights does not guarantee success, merely a changed stadium name. Only clubs that move to a new stadium should have a changed name. Why not go the whole hog and change the name of the club Mr. Barber? The Adidas Hotspurs for example. I suspect he may be an *****. Could be wrong, mind.’

Ardiles was even stronger saying it would be the final straw for him:

‘Start changing the names and I stop going. I’m proud of the heritage and history and I totally agree with what you say Hotspur61, only time you can rename a stadium is if you move.’

Vital Chelsea editor Merlin said no kit kats at WHL:

‘We over here at Chelsea may not like you very much but please don’t go down the Arsenal route. A club’s ground should stay the same or else you’ll end up like Scarborough and their theatre of Chips or York City and the Kit-Kat Ground.’

‘I’m firmly with those who see a new name (in principle) as being a step forward … ONLY if we move. If we are simply attempting to flog the commercial/ intellectual rights to WHL then that will be acknowledged across the globe as sad desperate act of a club that is both spiritually and ethically bankrupt. There has been talk of our forward thinking chairman engineering this club into the Olympic Stadium in Stratford when it’s built. Just for example, if that were to happen and we flogged the naming rights to a company such as Puma or A.N.Other quality global brand I would be delighted. That doesn’t mean our history means nothing, it means we are going forward in measured steps and with any luck fulfilling a legacy given us decades ago by the names we tell our kids about today. This seems like an opportunity to ask for YOUR SUGGESTIONS for stadium names. Here’s 3 to start you off… Silk Cut Stadium Holland & Barrett Bowl Strepsil Stadium etc etc Best Name wins ‘The Best Name Award’! ‘

Adding:

‘I’ve just re-read Barber’s comments. All I can add is ‘Uh-Oh’. Hotspur is spot on, as usual. Short termism garbage such as I fear from Barber ought spur us all to lobby the club to avoid anything as stupid as I outlined in my comments above. WHL re-christened the LG STADIUM ? **** ***.

‘We are Tottenham, we are Tottenham, Tottenham from the LDV Vans Stadium…’ – Doesn’t have quite the same ring to it!! I think we’re just beginning to return WHL to Europe, and we should be playing in a stadium called WHL in next year’s champions league’

buckers_07 says whatever the board decide, WHL will always be WHL.

‘I am against the idea but even if it was renamed surely us the fans would still call it the lane no matter what happens we will all know it was WHITE HART LANE regardless of what they change it to’
