Report: Tottenham tipped to sign £45m midfielder, could replace Christian Eriksen

According to Alex Milne of the Mirror, Tottenham are interested in Donny van de Beek as a potential replacement for Christian Eriksen and could match his £45m asking price to bring him to London. Spurs will have competition from Real Madrid and Bayern Munich for the midfielder’s signature, however.

Van de Beek has rose through the youth ranks to the Ajax first-team in 2016 and has gone on to make 135 appearances in all competitions by the age of 22, scoring and creating 52 goals. He’s been outstanding this season, contributing 28 goals in 54 games and could be on course to win the treble.

The Netherlands international has already won the Dutch Cup, is two games away from winning the Eredivisie title with Ajax and is in the Champions League semi-final with the Dutch giants. The Mirror admit Van de Beek isn’t clamouring to leave Ajax, but the increased interest could turn his head.

Ajax would be compensated well for van de Beek, and the player will be in for a big payday, but Tottenham have work to do to procure his signature. The Lilywhites are looking to replace Mousa Dembele, but the 22-year-old is more of a creative midfielder who has a good eye for goal and makes chances for his teammates.
