Report: Tottenham target likened to Marcel Desailly claims England is his ‘dream destination’

|

Rumoured Tottenham target Dayot Upamecano is claimed to have said that a move to the Premier League would be his ‘dream destination’ if he was to leave RB Leipzig.

According to Bild, the 21-year-old centre-back has garnered plenty of interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs with FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich keen on Upamecano, yet the defender’s ‘dream destination’ seems to be the Premier League, with Spurs, as well as Arsenal, keen on Upamecano.

Bild reported in the summer that Upamecano had been the subject of a £55m bid from the Gunners, just over half of what the French youngster’s release clause valuation was at the time for Leipzig. Yet it is looking increasingly likely that the defender could leave the Bundesliga club at the end of this season.

Should Tottenham try to beat Arsenal for Dayot Upamecano?

Yes

No

Upamecano’s stock has risen exceptionally this season with Leipzig emerging as genuine contenders for Bundesliga champions in what is becoming the most open title race in Europe’s top-five leagues as the standings shows, and the former RB Salzburg prospect has played a crucial role in this impressive accomplishment.

Likened to former Chelsea defender and World Cup winner Marcel Desailly as per a scout report from Bundesliga.com, Upamecano has solidified himself as not only one of the best young defenders in the German top-flight but as one of the standout centre-backs overall in the division, and with the Premier League in his career plans, Tottenham have to pounce at the opportunity.

Whilst Arsenal have been the English side mostly linked with a move for the 21-year-old, a move to Spurs could be more suited to Upamecano given Jose Mourinho’s stance on defending and Tottenham’s seemingly improved status as a club over their north London rivals, who look set to go a fourth year in a row without qualifying for the Champions League.
