Report: Tottenham receive major boost as transfer target turns down new contract

|

Tottenham have received a significant transfer boost as reports suggest that Chelsea winger Willian has turned down a new deal at Stamford Bridge.

According to UOL, the Blues offered the Brazil international a two-year contract with the club he has spent seven seasons with. However, the 31-year-old turned it down as he wants at least three years.

The report claims that Willian has had approaches from across Europe and that Tottenham are one of those clubs. We could be boosted by this news and as reports suggest that Jose Mourinho will look to snap up Willian at the end of the season. With his contract set to expire this summer, it would be a great opportunity to sign a player as good as Willian on a free transfer.

Would you take Willian at Chelsea?

Yes

No

The chances are if talks between Willian and the club continue to break down, there is a real possibility for the Brazilian to join us. Despite the Blues being one of our fiercest rivals, this hasn’t stopped our manager from making the move. And considering Mourinho had him under his wing at Stamford Bridge, the previous relationship that the two have could encourage them to reunite at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

With six goals and five assists from 36 appearances this season (as per TransferMarkt), it has far from been his best year at the club. However, he continues to perform at a better level than Erik Lamela, who has just four goals from 25 outings for Tottenham.

With our current form almost causing us to grind to a halt, it is sensible for Mourinho to plan towards next season. If Willian signs on a free, it would be a complete bargain which has the potential to be an overwhelming success.

But we hate him due to his duplicitous shenanigans over his move to Tottenham, err Chelsea
