Report: Spurs have tabled a contract offer to player

|

Spurs fans were delighted to hear that one of the club’s brightest young prospects, Japhet Tanganga, was offered a new deal by the club this week.

According to Football Insider, Mauricio Pochettino gave the ‘green light’ on the decision to try and get the 20-year-old signed on for next season, with his current contract set to expire in the summer of 2020. Tanganga impressed during our pre-season tour in Asia, excelling against Bayern Munich in particular, but has featured just once so far this season in our Carabao Cup defeat at Colchester.

With Spurs struggling so far in the league, it has been a surprise to see Tanganga barely feature, especially considering that Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld are both likely to leave the club in the summer with both of their contracts also set to expire. With both of those centre-backs struggling; with average ratings of 6.61 and 6.78 respectively, it is strange that Pochettino has yet to put his faith in the youngster when you imagine that a partnership with Davinson Sanchez could be worth a shot in the Premier League.

Should Japhet Tanganga be starting for Spurs?

Yes

No

If Tanganga accepts the contract offer, then don’t be surprised to see the 20-year-old academy graduate begin to get more game time under Pochettino, with a Premier League debut surely on the horizon. However, with a lack of game-time under Pochettino this season, it would also not be a shock to see Tanganga reject the club offer and find himself a new club in the summer, although Spurs fans will certainly be hoping that isn’t the case.
