Report: Spurs 4-3 Leeds

|

Spurs signed off at home 2022 in style with a dramatic late 4-3 victory over Leeds United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, coming from behind not once, not twice, but three times to claim what had long appeared to be an elusive three points against stubborn – but ever-vulnerable – opposition.

The first of three setbacks arrived shortly after the ten-minute mark, when Crysencio Summerville continued his recent rich vein of form by slotting the ball in under Hugo Lloris from close range to bag his fourth goal in four league matches.

Summerville then spurned a glorious opportunity to double his tally and Leeds’ advantage when he hit the ball straight at Lloris when through on goal, and the visitors were made to pay shortly after when Harry Kane fired in after Illan Meslier had failed to connect with Ivan Perisic’s corner.

With the game slowing down as half-time approached, Leeds regained their lead when Rasmus Kristensen’s header from the second phase of a corner evaded everyone in the Spurs penalty area bar Rodrigo, who reacted quickest to lash the ball under Lloris. 1-2 Leeds at the break.

Buoyed by Antonio Conte, Spurs started the second half feverishly, and were rewarded early on when Ben Davies lashed in a fierce drive from the edge of the box that neither Meslier nor Kristensen could keep out.

Leeds refused to wilt following Davies’ equaliser, and kept the pressure on the hosts as the half wore on without really creating any significant opportunities. That was until Rodrigo Bentancur’s appeals for a foul near the centre circle fell on deaf ears, and from the same move, Rodrigo latched on to a through-ball down Spurs’ right and slotted in a neat finish past Lloris just under 15 minutes from time.

However, Leeds’ advantage lasted but a few minutes, and Spurs’ third leveller of the afternoon arrived when substitute Matt Doherty’s cross was headed out to Bentancur just inside Leeds’ box, whose low effort went in off substitute Luke Ayling.

Not content with an equaliser, Bentancur turned matchwinner but 2 minutes later, converting excellently from Kulusevski’s close-range cutback under Meslier.

Any hopes Leeds had of snatching a point for their valiant efforts were quashed when Tyler Adams received a second yellow card for halting a Spurs counter-attack, and Spurs were left celebrating winning their ninth Premier League match of the season, and the fourth from a losing position.

    Conte is a joke.
Picking Emerson Royal to be booed by the Spurs fans and cheered when subbed.
Then Conte brings on Charlie Chaplin instead of the talented DJED SPENCE who is left to rot on the bench.
Please Levy do not give Conte a new contract. He is good enough for Spurs.

    Not!

Here’s hoping the WC break will be not only a relief from the frustrations of the Conte era, but will display some good football.

At to holding the games in Qatar, shame on football. The whole concept is disgraceful and I hope some teams/players find the courage to make some gestures in a decent direction. Here’s hoping Spurs management never allows Qatar or Emirates money to seep into our home.

I wonder how long this site will continue before going blank. Sympathy for the two writers that start the threads. It must be disheartening to put in the obvious effort they do into writing the leads, and to see so many of them receiving no or few responses. Reminds me of peeing into the wind. all things come to pass. Rome collapsed. Britain had its Brexit. VS looks to be in decline. Will it have its Edward Gibbon? Where will we pagans go?

Anyway, three comebacks in one match would be exciting, but why do these Conte teams always seem to be in desperate need to come back from futile openings. Does he have some pathological need to fall behind so that his ream can heroically come back? That’s crazy. Do we want to be crazy?

I used to date a woman who became known as Little Miss Drama Queen. It was thrilling but exhausting to be involved with her. I heard recently she died. Her house burned to the ground with her and 10 parrots in it, and pile upon pile of unread newspapers from decades ago when people read newspapers. Is THFC trying to be the drama queen of the PL? I don’t want to go up in flames with 20 parrots.

My apology to my old lover of decades ago for having mentioned her and her drama queen demise. but it’s the theme that comes back to me when our club requires drama every week by falling purposely behind in the opening minutes. It’s crazy and we will all die with our parrots if this keeps up.

Well, to be fair, interaction isn’t encouraged whe the users’ wishes aren’t being listened to. Clearly, the new VS management has put a focus on publishing more articles, probably to drive more traffic to the site and generate more ad revenue.

However this goes against the wishes of regular posters who want a steady pace of one article/thread per game but no more.

Somthing about making your bed seems right, here.

I’m having the sensation of writing a diary here where no one else will come on the site and participate, so I’m only writing to myself. lol. If this the way that sites come to their ends? With parrot-death thoughts sneaking into the diary? 20 bloody parrots and one old lady at the end, all going up in smoke and flames. drama she got.

The irony of football. A lot of Spurs fans are actually happier about this sort of game because of the goals scored, and Conte is ruing the fact that we shipped 3 goals.

Spurs fans are a funny bunch. A lot of us complain about not winning things, but when we hire a coach who can actually deliver a trophy, fans moan about the performances.

You can never please all of the people all of th time, but personally I am very happy with where we are currently, and I still expect us to improve as the season goes on. We’ve navigated the first period of the season relatively well, and we can now hopefully kick on after the WC.

I think I’ve been fairly consistent over the years. I want to win, but winning per se isn’t worth it. How we play is more important. Winning through boring isn’t worth it.
