Report: Pochettino has competition from Liverpool & Manchester United for £27k-per-week man

After failing to replace Mousa Dembele in January, Tottenham are expected to prioritise signing a central midfielder this summer. The Londoners have Eric Dier, Victor Wanyama and Moussa Sissoko to provide substance in the engine room while Dele Alli and Harry Winks bring creativity, but Mauricio Pochettino is targeting another playmaker-type in the transfer market.

According to Jacob Steinberg of the Guardian, Spurs will have to battle Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City for James Maddison this summer, but Leicester City are requesting £60m for the £27k-per-week midfielder. Maddison contributed 14 goals in 36 Premier League games last season, creating 100 chances and making 50 successful dribbles (68%).

The 22-year-old joined Leicester from Norwich City in July 2018 and was a standout performer in his debut season at the King Power Stadium. Maddison is close to receiving an England call-up as a result of his form and would certainly improve the Tottenham squad if Pochettino could land his signature.

Whether Spurs can beat out three Premier League giants remains to be seen, however, as having so much competition for the midfielder could prove a stumbling block in negotiations.
