Report: Levy to block Spurs player from moving to this club in January despite almost being sold

|

Daniel Levy has reportedly blocked Victor Wanyama from leaving Tottenham in January for Premier League rivals West Ham with the east London side interested in the Kenyan international.

According to Football Insider, Wanyama, who came close to moving to Club Brugge in the summer transfer window as reported by The Evening Standard, won’t be allowed to leave Tottenham in the New Year to West Ham due to Levy’s past clashes with the Hammers and stubbornness to work with the English side.

Levy has already denied Spurs players in the past from joining West Ham, with The Guardian claiming in 2015 that the Tottenham chairman vetoed former striker Emmanuel Adebayor joining the club on loan.

Would Dzeko Make Sense In January?

Yes

No

With Wanyama so far down in the Tottenham midfield pecking order even after the arrival of Jose Mourinho, with graphs from Transfermarkt showing that the north London side are stacked in the central and defensive midfield areas of the pitch with the likes of Harry Winks, Eric Dier, Tanguy Ndombele and Moussa Sissoko capable of playing in these positions, the former Southampton man could be off in January as he was meant to be in the summer.

Although the deal to Club Brugge collapsed at the last minute in the summer, there is a good chance that Wanyama could still depart Tottenham in 2020, with The Sun reporting via HITC that both Celtic and Hertha Berlin are interested in signing the 28-year-old midfielder in the winter transfer window.

With stats from Transfermarkt showing that Wanyama has only made just four appearances this season with the midfielder playing only 122 minutes of football, Mourinho could be keen to ship off the Kenyan international in January, and although a move to West Ham can’t happen due to the hand of Levy, there are still suitors out there who would be keen to take the 28-year-old off Spurs’ plate.
