Report: Fabrizio Romano drops big Spurs update for ace that Van der Vaart dubs ‘a great signing’

|

Fabrizio Romano has dropped a major update in Tottenham’s pursuit for PSV attacker Steven Bergwijn, with the reliable Italian journalist claiming that the Dutch youngster is on the verge of joining Spurs.

Taking to his official Twitter account, Romano reports that Bergwijn has agreed to personal terms with Tottenham after it was reported by De Telegraaf that the 22-year-old Dutch attacker flew to London last weekend to complete a move to Spurs, resulting in the youngster missing PSV’s league game.

The deal has somewhat come out of nowhere, with Tottenham’s interests this January seemingly being focused on signing a replacement for Harry Kane, who is set to be out of first-team action until April at the earliest as the club’s official website confirmed earlier this month.

Steven Bergwijn...

Sign him

Not worth it

Although Spurs remain in talks with AC Milan for the loan signing of Krzysztof Piatek as reported by Romano in the aforementioned tweet, the imminent arrival of Bergwijn has caused some excitement amongst Tottenham fans, with former player Rafael van der Vaart giving his approval of the deal via his official Twitter account.

One of the biggest names in Dutch football over the past few years, Bergwijn has come into his own with PSV this season, with stats from Transfermarkt showing that the versatile attacker has bagged six goals and 13 assists in all competitions for the Eredivisie side this campaign.

With Christian Eriksen in Italy to complete his deal to Inter Milan as reported by Sky Sports News, Bergwijn could be seen as a short-term fix for the Danish playmaker for the remainder of the season, and at just 22, the Netherlands international could be a new talisman in the Tottenham attack for the next few years.
