Tottenham are reportedly in talks with multiple clubs to sell 22-year-old centre-back Cameron Carter-Vickers.
Football Insider claim that Spurs are looking to permanently sell the USA international this month with the club valuing the Southend-born defender at just £4m after Carter-Vickers’ loan spell at Stoke City was cut short last month despite playing 1,000 minutes of football for the Potters as stats from WhoScored show.
Carter-Vickers’ time at Stoke was his fourth different loan spell away from Tottenham in his short yet eventful career, and it appears that Jose Mourinho is not a fan of the defender if this report holds any truth to it, with Team Talk also claiming that a host of Championships sides are keen on taking the American defender this month.
Will we have a big transfer window?YesNo |
An eight-time capped international for the USA, Carter-Vickers was viewed as a highly-rated youngster at Tottenham during Mauricio Pochettino’s reign at the club, with the former Spurs boss saying to Football London that the 22-year-old centre-back had a long-term future with the north London side, yet the departure of the Argentine has seemed to have changed things.
Yet Carter-Vickers won’t be short of suitors for his signature, though, with stats from WhoScored showing that the defender has a plethora of experience in the English second-division despite his young age and lack of first-team minutes in the Premier League, and this could prove to be a unique selling point for the young defender.
With Mourinho keen on improving the Spurs defence and Japhet Tanganga the youth academy defender of choice for the Portuguese manager, Carter-Vickers’ future at Tottenham seems to be all but over, meaning a fresh, permanent start at a new club could be what the American needs to see his still promising career kick-start again.
