Report: Bad news for Tottenham as £75k-per-week man could join Fiorentina

|

According to Sky Italy, Fiorentina are interested in Fernando Llorente. The 34-year-old is a free agent after being released by Tottenham this summer and is open to a return to Italy. Spurs are still weighing up handing Llorente a contract extension after his fine form last season, but the two sides can’t come to an agreement.

Llorente made 66 appearances in all competitions for Tottenham after joining from Swansea City in 2017, scoring and creating 19 goals. The £75k-per-week man played second fiddle to Harry Kane but became an important player in the final few months of last season – firing Spurs into the Champions League semi-finals in mid-April was a notable achievement.

Despite his heroics, Llorente was still let go by the club. Tottenham are yet to announce his departure and have been trying to re-sign him on a lower contract. Whether they succeed remains to be seen, however, as Fiorentina’s offer might be more attractive. Llorente will be second or third-choice in attack at Tottenham but could be a regular in Serie A.

After scoring and creating a goal every 95 minutes for Tottenham last season, the Spanish international deserves respect. Llorente joining the Violas would be a blow for Spurs as he was key in getting the side to the Champions League final last season. Tottenham’s loss could be Fiorentina’s gain.
