Reasons to be cheerful

This week has been the most depressing week in my almost 18 years.

Not only do we have the financial markets dying in a bloody pool beside us but we also have riots for no reason other than some people want a new TV. So I’ve decided to look to the new season where I have convinced myself we’re going to do well.

After Saturdays second half performance I think we can all put a few quid that that will be near enough the team that starts on Saturday. Even though that was only a friendly, it was a great performance and if we had played like that against the same standard of teams like Bilbao (the Everton’s and lower), we probably would have beaten Arsenal to 4th (and wouldn’t that have been soooo sweet) and have a strike force of Rossi, Llorente and he whose mother is a whore, a player I would love to see at Spurs.

These are games that I’m convinced we will win this year (well only for the purposes of this article), without Champions league football and more importantly our lads have drunk from the grail and visited nightclubs of Europe and they want more. Another good thing is our youth, thanks to the Europa League our best/more ready kids are not being sent out on loan, instead they are being sent out to strange European countries. None more so than the first. Scotland.

This will give us a double boost, not only will our first team players be fresh for Sundays but for example should Peter Crouch get lost in a Lithuanian brothel, Harry may just give someone like Kane or Coulibaly a chance in the Premier League, this is perhaps unlikely for the striker position as we do have the Tottenham legend who has lost it these last few years, Robbie Kean on the bench but were BAE to get injured Rose would be at the club to take over, the same with Lennon, Townsend might get a game.

Also it is important to remember that the transfer window is not closed and I always have problems believing this sell before you buy, Levy does all the deals so it’s not up to Harry to sell the players its Levy. Also the £40 million bids for loads of players in January does indicate that we have a little bit of money available and were it not for the Torres transfer there is every chance we would have signed someone.

With a bid having been rejected for Rossi already this window, I find it hard to believe that with all this talk of Rossi, Llorente, Adebayor and even unconfirmed reports that a deal was in place to bring Edin Dzeko to Spurs only to be thwarted by his £200,000 a week wages, that we won’t sign at least a striker and not to forget it looks likely that we will sign FC Twente’s Bryan Ruiz, not the man I had in mind but certainly capable of improving our team.

So what have we got? A team with a winning mentality, after some good preseason wins. Our best striker (Defoe) has already scored 2 goals, half the amount of goals he scored all last year in the Prem. Some really talented youngsters, not to mention some questionable purchases by Liverpool and an Arsenal side clearly on the way down, future improvements to the team and it’s impossible to forget the White Hart Lane faithful who gave Luka the most incredible reason to stay.

So this is why we should be happy, while you sell all your shares and form vigilante groups, take a break, sit back and while the world is turning into a strange parody of a clockwork orange, think to yourself thank (add whichever god you believe in or if atheist favourite musical artist of the moment) I’m a Spurs fan.
