Preview: Brighton vs Spurs

|

Spurs aim to return to winning ways with a trip to the AMEX stadium to take on Brighton & Hove Albion in tomorrow’s late kick-off, 5.30 PM BST.

Curiously enough, although this will be our fifth away league match so far this season, this is only our second Premiership fixture outside of London, the last one being our victory over Nottingham Forest in August. Indeed, that match remains our only away victory in all competitions so far this season.

In recent years, we’ve endured mixed fortunes at the AMEX, losing two of our last three trips there, and despite winning the corresponding fixture 7 months ago, Brighton won the last encounter between the two sides a month later.

They will be looking to record successive competitive victories over Spurs for the first-time in their history, and will very much fancy their chances given the start they’ve made to the season.

Indeed, Roberto de Zerbi’s side boast the league’s second-best defence and have only lost once this season; they will therefore present stern opponents, but then again, isn’t everyone in this division a ‘stern opponent’?

Injury-wise, nothing has changed from our end, and it is likely that we will be unable to call on the services of Lucas Moura and Dejan Kukusevski once again, with Emerson Royal commencing his three match suspension this weekend. Aside from his replacement, I don’t expect many changes to the starting XI.

For Brighton, Enock Mwepu misses out with illness and long-term absentee Jakub Moder also remains out.

Let’s hope Conte stops the mad histrionics on the touchline and puts some zip into the players.
They currently look dejected and frustrated.
Time to pass the ball forward. Time to get someone crossing the ball. Time to stop the sideways and backwards passing. Time to go out and win and stop boring the opposition and fans to death.

  • 123spurs says:

I don’t think the players have the feel good factor bond with eachother, conte was backed and had a full pre season, we should be hitting the ground running now. We seem to be stuttering along. I can’t bare to watch these tactics, imagine been on the pitch

  • Geofspurs says:

This is one of those rare times when the game is a genuine six-pointer. If we win we are six points in front of Brighton. If we lose we are level on points. Basic maths.

Brighton are an attacking team and they are full of confidence. They move the ball fast and move it forward with energy. Our defence needs to keep it’s shape and our forwards need to convert goal opportunities. Sounds simple, doesn’t it. But we all know it’s not.

    Prediction 0-3 (Son hat-trtick).

  • TK says:

    lol Geof.

Son gets his hat trick in the first 13 minutes before being removed by a histrionic Mr. Conte who shouts loudly on the touchline that he is not an idiot. Son replaced by Bryan Gil, which prompts lots more histrionics by Mr. Conte. Supporters chants show a lose of enthusiasm for Mr. Conte in general. Rumors suggest he will return momentarily to Chelsea to get bigger salary from LA Dodger part-owner. Spurs get a broken Konte in return. Conte declares that it’s a good trade. but he doesn’t say for whom, prompting chants of Idiot Idiot Idiot. No one is happy, especially since the match vs Brighton Albion ends in another draw.

  • TK says:

I was remembering the good feeling for Conte when we beat Arse on the end of the last season to get into the CL.

Those feelings are hard to remember recently as progress has been converted to regress. The new signings since haven’t brought happiness, which is another take on the theme that money can’t buy you love.

Now our joy is expressed as vituperation. bitter, sour, and bordering on an angry that one can spit onto the sidewalk. See what you’ve made, Mr. Conte? Stop focusing the world’s attention on your lack of stupidity and instead demonstrate your magical grasp of the game and its players. Proof is in the playing, not the complaining that we haven’t recognized your brilliance.

Tough crowd here. we don’t like to lose to the Arse nor to draw to some 11th place German lot. Isn’t that where they ended last season?

  • Niall D says:

I can see us, winning this one by a couple of goals.
I think much of our issue is
    Defending much too deep.
Slow build up and over passing when attacking, + attempting “thru the eye of a needle ‘passes which often don’t come off.
We seem infatuated in trying to get all of the front three involved in every goal and having to score from inside the 18 yrd box, look at Sons hat trick I’d argue that along with Hoj they were the first shots from outside the 18 this season and guess what successful.
So a few attempts at the odd worldie pls.
    3-1 Spurs.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

Spurs could do better… But we ain’t half bad, really. We’re doin’ alright.

    Seagulls 1-4 Cockerels!

    Why not?!

    Up the Spurs!

  • Hot Tottingham says:

Niall, I have just looked at the EPL stats for “scoring outside of the box”.

Spurs sit in second place for this, behind Leicester. The Foxes have scored 6 from outside the area. Spurs have scored 5.

Then again, LC are second from bottom in the EPL. Spurs are 3rd from the top!

Make of it, what you will. 😉

  • TK says:

kulusevski out with hamstring. switch to 352? Son to sit? Bissouma added to midfield?

would this enable us to get a shot on goal today?

we need to put some space between us and this lot from Brighton. I’d endorse a change in formations that gives us a bit of strength is the middle of the pitch.

  • PompeyYid says:

Come on Cockerels kick them Shitehawks arses, 1 – 3 win for me. COYS

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

TK, we can’t possibly ply 352 because Bissouma isn’t tactically ready and we can’t possibly risk Skipp ever again as he hasn’t played for a year. We also have a massive problem at right back because Docherty isn’t ready to start and Spence simply isn’t ready. I think we will therefore have to sacrifice a right back and play with just 10 men. Unfortunately we can not have any attackers on the bench because Gil isn’t strong enough.
In light of so many players not being ready for Conte will have to play with just the 10 men with Forster and Davies as our only subs.
Thank god our manager is so brave and isn’t stupid.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

    Lloris
    Romero Dier Davies
    Doherty Bissouma Hojbjerg Bentancur Sessegnon
    Son Kane

  • wentworth says:

Very defensive lineup and only 2 attackers out of 9 subs …one of them is Gil who will probably never play again after Conte screamed at him.
Will be interesting to see how Doherty manages as Conte doesn’t like him either.
Let’s hope that Conte stops dancing around and offers strictly encouragement and attacking support from all the defenders on the pitch. Our lineup suggests a brilliant 0-0 draw with no shots on either goal.
    .

    • Love totty says:

Seems a little harsh, WW. I feel sure that this lineup offers us greater stability, possession and therefore more attacking opportunities. Got to be better than what we’ve seen so far. Of course the players have got to turn up and want to play. Could be interesting.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

Looking at that lineup DH, your sarcasm looks mistimed and completely misplaced…

  • Hot Tottingham says:

Our lineup looks very attacking to me, Wentworth.

Even more so than before, I think we’ll thrash them. 🙂

  • Drdrums11 says:

Yes TK, I’d really like to have Bissouma start in a three man midfield with Son on the bench and Kane and Richy up front. I’d also like to see Spence get an opportunity to show his ability at right wingback.

  • TK says:

    1Hugo Lloris
    15Eric Dier
    33Ben Davies
    17Cristian Romero
    30Rodrigo Bentancur
    38Yves Bissouma
    5Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg
    19Ryan Sessegnon
    2Matt Doherty
    10Harry Kane
    7 son heung min

Bissouma starting. looks like a 3-5-2? with two wingbacks sess and doherty roaming on the wings in attack. Richarlison in subs. but the midfield looks beefed up. bissouma hojbjerg bentancur. he wants to keep the width and add some strength in the middle, with a loss of an attacker.

  • TK says:

Mr. Conte fears looking stupid, no? So he’s beefing up the midfield where we’ve been getting overrun.

He’s finally started listening to the comments on VS. lol

Don;t be a fool, Mr. Conte. Add some strength to the midfield. Ouch.

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

My timing as perfect as ever HT!

  • Allan says:

I like this formation as it strengthens midfield .
Richie is misfiring so have Bissouma bringing speed to midfield looks good to me .
At least Conte has done something different which is what we wanted and now the players have to perform .
    Give Conte some credit .
Again the optimist and hope for at least a point if not more .
