Pochettino Names His “Principle Objective” For Spurs With A History Rewrite On The Horizon

|

With Tottenham Hotspur’s injury ravaged season still seeing us clinch a top four spot in the 2018/19 Premier League campaign, the season could get even better in the next few weeks as attentions turn to Liverpool and the Champions League Final.

With a good domestic season behind us, despite some recent wobbles as the year seemed to catch up with us, the Champions League adventure has been even more turbulent given how we came through the Group Stages of the competition, but in a year where ‘just doing enough’ has almost become our new motto, one last final effort would rewrite history and manager Mauricio Pochettino is keenly aware of that fact.

Speaking to Sky Sports following the weekend’s draw with Everton, the gaffer has only got his mind on one thing now – and that’s making Jurgen Klopp’s season even more disappointing.

“I think we can make history. We are creating history because we are making it, but if we can win we will write history and change the perception of this amazing club. Of course the club and the fans and we all deserve to be focused on the way and how we can win the final. That is the principle objective, there’s not another objective.”

Reflecting on the campaign as a whole, he rightly said he felt it was the best season in his time at the club so far, especially with everything else we’ve had to deal with given the injuries and the stadium delays.

“Four top-four finishes, four Champions League qualifications and the cherry on the cake will be the Champions League final. This group of players deserve so much credit. They have put so much unbelievable effort in. There have been many positives this season. The players and staff have shown so much character. We broke down all the doors when the circumstances were against us with the new stadium stuff. So to see their capacity to fight again makes me so proud. I think this is our best season in our five years. I am so happy, so pleased. What we have achieved this season – top four and final of Champions League – it is difficult to assess now but in time the people will realise what we achieve.”

I think most already do.
