Poch Has Clear Injury Concerns & It Doesn’t Make For Good Reading – “Maybe For The Rest Of The Season”

|

With Tottenham Hotspur putting in an organised and resilient showing against Manchester City yesterday evening as we welcomed them to the new White Hart Lane for our Champions League first leg quarter-final tie, fans would certainly have taken a narrow 1-0 advantage at the effective halftime break in the affair.

With Sergio Aguero wasting an early penalty shot, manager Mauricio Pochettino felt post-game that had simply bolstered our belief in gaining a positive result and with greater chances on the day, Son Heung-Min opening the scoring late on was fully justified.

The downside from the game, of course, was seeing England striker and key man Harry Kane limp off in the 58th minute after he took a knock to his ankle and needed replacing with Lucas Moura.

The BBC had Pochettino saying following the fulltime whistle, that ahead of scans being undertaken, it was obviously a ‘worry’ and a major concern for us moving forward.

“We need to check tomorrow but looks like it is the same ankle and similar injury. It is very sad and very disappointing. We are going to miss him – maybe for the rest of the season. It is a worry for us. We hope it is not a big issue. But there is not to much time to recover. He twisted his ankle so we will see how it reacts in a few hours.”

Adding about the incident where he gained it.

“Fabian Delph was very disappointed but he didn’t realise Harry’s intention was not to tackle him. In the action, both were very strong. But both didn’t have the intention to make damage to another. That was why Fabian was trying to talk to him. Both were fighting for the ball.”

Kane will have his own thoughts based on how the two incidents ‘felt’ in the moment, but everyone will be praying those scans come back clear and a worst it’s only a game or two concern.
