Opinion: Tottenham won’t sign Real Madrid man, asking price and wage demands too steep

According to Marca, Real Madrid are considering selling Gareth Bale and could use the 29-year-old in a deal with Tottenham for Christian Eriksen. The Danish international’s future remains uncertain at Spurs as his contract has 18 months to run and he’s no closer to putting pen to paper on an extension.

The likelihood of him joining Real and Bale going in the opposite direction is very slim, however. Tottenham aren’t in the market for new forward and certainly don’t have the finances to meet his £60m valuation and pay Bale’s £224k-per-week wages.

Real have Eden Hazard on the top of their wishlist too. The Chelsea forward is expected to make the switch to the Santiago Bernabeu when the summer transfer window opens, so signing Eriksen isn’t a priority for them. Tottenham are unlikely to accept bids unless they’re certain he won’t sign a new deal.

Some Tottenham fans would welcome Bale back, but the player might not be open to a return to London. And with Heung-min Son, Lucas Moura and Erik Lamela in the side, does Mauricio Pochettino really have a fervent need to strengthen his attack?
