With Danny Rose nearing an exit, Tottenham will need a replacement left-back this summer. Ben Davies looks set to be Spurs’ first-choice next season, but Mauricio Pochettino may need to scour the transfer market for some competition. The Scotsman say Kieran Tierney is on his radar, but it’s hard to see Spurs making the Celtic man a priority signing.

Pochettino wants Ryan Sessegnon from Fulham. The 19-year-old is keen to leave the Cottagers and would be developed into a left-back at Tottenham. Sessegnon is likely to play second-fiddle to Davies until he’s ready for first-team football, but Tierney couldn’t be managed in the same way.

The 22-year-old has made 170 appearances for the Hoops, winning five Premiership titles, three Scottish Cups and three Scottish League Cups. He’s not going to leave Celtic to sit on the bench, nor would Tottenham pay £25m and £4m-a-year in wages on a player who isn’t guaranteed a starting place. Spurs are holding out for a lower transfer fee for Sessegnon.

Arsenal are leading the race for Tierney, so it makes far more sense for Tottenham to focus on the Fulham youngster. Sessegnon recently ‘liked’ Spurs’ kit launch on Instagram which may be a subtle hint of his desire to wear it.

  • here wing again
Levy closed his wallet .. no more signings!! of any quality!!!
Poch must be sick to the back teeth of this Man!
Poch said he wanted to see a 5 yr plan
well seems like he got a 5 minute one instead!!!
1 signing so far as you cannot include Clarke as he is back a Leeds
Levy whatvare you doing to build a squad for this season????
    please tell us

  • Davies is pants, should be playing in the championship. He is of very average quality and any fool can see this.
Levy should sign Celtic’s best player, who is a proven winner and has European experience.
He is only 22 and Poch could make him even better.

  • So many transfer gossip sites and so much conflicting information. So let’s try and get things straight. Spurs aren’t interested in Tierney as he is not a player they want. With respect he is not good enough. Then we are linked with Roma’s full back but at 29 he is too old as the policy is to sign young players. So that’s a non starter. Toby could be used in an exchange deal with Roma for Zaniolo but equally Toby could well stay put. Dani Alves link is rubbish as we were never interested. Again too old for a start. Any rumours featuring Gareth Bale, Julian Draxler and anyone over 26 years old you can forget except maybe, just maybe Llorente is offered a new one year deal so Levy doesn’t have to buy a young striker to sit on the bench watching Harry every game. Saliba was never going to be signed only to be loaned back as why pay £30 million only to wait a year for his services. Levy just wouldn’t do that nor Poch. Same with Ceballos. Yes we are keen on him but again he and Madrid only want a one year loan deal. There’s no way Levy would want Poch to develop a player only to hand him back next May. Unless we can sign him permanently you can forget that one too. The only ones we are in for are Lo Celso, Sessegnon and Zaniolo but the latter is a long shot. Yes they may go for a left back if and when Danny goes (which I for one don’t understand why we are letting him go even if he does turn 29 soon). But I feel Foyth is being lined up for that position and Jan can fill in there if necessary but it’s a risky solution to a problem that doesn’t have to exist. But Rose deserves a big pay rise which he ain’t gonna get with Levy so good luck to him in trying to go somewhere where he can likely double his wages. Anyway these are my opinions so feel free to shoot me down!

    • Not sure if you have seen enough of Tierney to jump to the conclusion he isn’t good enough..Robertson, wanyama, van dycke etc have all left Celtic and held their own down south..playing in a better league will definitely help him become even better and if Maguire is worth 70 m Tierney is a bargain at 25m..

  • At the end of the Champions League group stages, UEFA did a ‘ Team of the Groups ‘ all-star eleven. Their laft back choice was Kieran Tierney ; ahead of the likes of Marcelo, Danny Alves, Barzagli etc etc etc.
So ….. on you go. Chase you 19 year old on the cheap. Alternatively, do your homework before you publish.
