Opinion: Tottenham should sign centre-midfielder, player admits his future is uncertain

|

Youri Tielemans has recently spoken out about his future, revealing that he’s not thinking about staying permanently at Leicester City and plans to return to parent club AS Monaco. The 21-year-old came close to a move to Tottenham at the end of January, but Leicester won the race for his signature. His latest comments could be music to the ears of Spurs, however, as he admitted he’s “open to everything”.

Tielemans has made six appearances in all competitions for Leicester, scoring and creating three goals while making eight tackles, four successful dribbles and nine chances. He said in an interview with Nieuwsblad: “I remain a Monaco player. I am definitely not going to say anything else (smile). I’ll be back this summer and we’ll see. I am open to everything. For Monaco, but also for Leicester or another team.”

The midfielder joined Monaco from RSC Anderlecht in 2017 and has gone on to make 65 appearances for the French outfit. He’d racked up 20 Ligue 1 games this season before seeking a move away from the Stade Louis II while Monaco were greatly underperforming under former manager Thierry Henry. Tottenham need a new midfielder and should return for Tielemans this summer as a result.

The 21-year-old can tackle, create chances, drive with the ball from deep and is comfortable in possession. At Leicester, he averages 46 passes-per-game with 83% accuracy. His market value is around £20m and he currently earns £1m-a-year.
