Explained: Tottenham may have to pay £30m and a £2m salary to sign defender

|

According to the Daily Star, Tottenham are interested in Nathan Ake, with Mauricio Pochettino potentially eyeing a replacement for Toby Alderweireld. The 24-year-old has impressed at Bournemouth and could be on the move from Dean Court as a result. Ake is expected to be inundated with offers over the summer.

He’s made 84 appearances in all competitions for the Cherries, having spent six months on loan during the 2016/17 season before turning the move permanent the following summer. The Netherlands international’s form has led to interest from Chelsea, Manchester United and Napoli, but he won’t come cheap.

The Daily Star say he’ll set sides back around £30m. Ake earns £2m-a-year/£40k-per-week at Bournemouth and would be in line for a payrise if he leaves the South Coast club. The defender has three years remaining on his deal at Dean Court, so Tottenham be paying close to £40m to sign a deal with Ake past 2022.

Alderweireld has a £25m release clause until the final two weeks of the summer transfer window and could be on the move as a result. Ake would be a good replacement, but whether Spurs can beat out all the competition to bring him back to London remains to be seen.
