Opinion: Tottenham have a big problem that could see them miss out on £25m

Kieran Trippier is expected to leave Tottenham after being put up for sale this summer, but offloading the 28-year-old is proving a difficult task. Trippier has a £25m asking price but no sides appear willing to match it, which could be a big problem for Mauricio Pochettino.

The Tottenham manager is trying to sign Ryan Sessegnon, but Spurs are unwilling to pay more than £25m for his signature. Offloading some deadwood will help pay for the Fulham midfielder, but Trippier doesn’t have any genuine interest from clubs.

Everton were linked with a move for the England international, but the Toffees already have Seamus Coleman at right-back and don’t need another. Crystal Palace have also been mentioned as potential suitors after selling Aaron Wan-Bissaka to Manchester United, but Trippier may not want to join a Premier League side who flirt with relegation.

If Pochettino manages to cash in on the 28-year-old, he’ll be left with Serge Aurier and Kyle Walker-Peters to choose from at right-back – both of whom spent most of 2018/19 on the periphery. Tottenham are struggling to sell Trippier, however, which could mean the status quo remains for another season.
