Explained: Everton have to pay £20m and £3.4m salary to sign Tottenham man

|

According to The Sun, Everton are interested in Kieran Trippier and could make a move for the 28-year-old this summer. Tottenham are reportedly keen to sell the defender after a season of poor form and injury problems, but he won’t come cheap.

Spurs paid Burnley £3.5m in 2015 to sign Trippier, but Everton might have to pay more than five times that figure to bring him to Goodison Park. The Sun say his asking price is around £20m. The England international currently earns £3.4m-a-year/£65k-per-week too.

Trippier has made 105 appearances in all competitions for Tottenham, scoring and creating 25 goals. He’s been a regular at right-back this season, featuring in 29 games, but his form has been an issue. Mistakes have become commonplace and Spurs may have lost patience with him.

Everton have Seamus Coleman as their first-choice right-back, but he’ll turn 31 in October and doesn’t have any competition for a starting place. Trippier would improve the squad, but whether they’d sanction a £20m deal for a position currently filled remains to be seen.

The Londoners would be left with Serge Aurier and Kyle Walker-Peters if Trippier was sold, but his money may not go on a direct replacement.
