Official: Tottenham man ‘unavailable’ against Newcastle due to ‘minor thigh injury’

|

Tanguy Ndombele will be ‘unavailable’ for Tottenham Hotspur’s meeting with Newcastle due to a ‘minor thigh injury’ he suffered in training, Spurs have confirmed. The 22-year-old has been a regular in midfield under Mauricio Pochettino since his summer move from Olympique Lyonnais, but he’ll be out of action on Sunday.

Moussa Sissoko and Harry Winks are likely to start in his absence, having both featured in Spurs’ two Premier League games so far. Ndombele’s injury isn’t said to be too serious, however, so he should be back for Tottenham sooner rather than later. Nevertheless, the French international will be a loss as he’s enjoyed a bright start to life with the Lilywhites.

Ndombele has amassed 180 minutes of Premier League football, scoring one goal, making one assist, averaging 50.5 passes-per-game with 86.1% accuracy, creating two chances, making four successful dribbles (100%), blocking seven shots/passes/crosses and averaging a tackle (8) or interception (3) every 16 minutes.

Tottenham could also be without Dele Alli this weekend, but Pochettino has plenty of options in midfield – Eric Dier, Victor Wanyama and Giovani Lo Celso can all supplement Sissoko & Winks if necessary. Spurs will fancy their chances against a Newcastle side without a point after two games.
