It’s a complement for Spurs to constantly be linked with some of the best players in the domestic and foreign leagues. As the transfer season finally swings into life after the stars of the World Cup finally return from their luxury beaches all over the world, I guess it’s a complement for Spurs to constantly be linked with some of the best players in the domestic and foreign leagues.

It is however very annoying when it’s clear that with even the slightest challenge these stories are in-accurate and way off the mark.Nolan will not be coming to Spurs. He’s not a replacement for Carrick as the Times reports today. He is an attacking midfielder who gets forward and scores goals – to be fair he’s was pretty good in the role. He also plays centrally, not wide, and lacks a bit of pace. Despite all his skill the last thing Spurs need is another central midfielder we could put out a whole team of those. Anyway Jenas is the 1st choice in that role.

Not only have Spurs already signed Carrick’s replacement – Zakora (so expect the transfer to Man U to complete once Carrick is back from his holidays this weekend) But they have another player waiting in the wings who will (I hope) be even better than Carrick – Tom Huddlestone.

I’ve been building a profile on Tom with quotes from Chris Houghton, Martin Jol, George Burley and Peter Taylor that I’ll publish when complete.

I suspect the Nolan story has more to do with politics at Bolton around his or Big Sam’s contract or transfer budget for the coming season.

Still no left side midfielder which is more of a worry.
