News: Spurs to hand youngster first-team debut

|

Tottenham Hotspur are set to hand Troy Parrott his senior debut in tonight’s game with Colchester United in the Carabao Cup.

The 17-year-old has had a stunning season so far netting seven goals for both club and country, and he is seen as the next player from the academy who will make a first-team impact.

Parrott has travelled with the squad to games this season in an attempt to integrate him into the Spurs team, and yesterday he did not feature for the U23’s suggesting that tonight will be his senior debut.

Mauricio Pochettino rates young Parrott very highly, but he does not want to end up with another Marcus Edwards on his hands – so he will not rush the Irishman’s development.

However, for a player who spent the summer playing against the likes of Juventus, Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Inter Milan a trip to Essex may be the perfect game to give him his senior debut.

Colchester will fancy themselves for a cup upset considering Tottenham’s indifferent start to the season, and if they see a 17-year-old lining up against them, they may feel they can bully him out of the game.

Parrott though looks like a determined player, and he will want nothing more than to score in a Tottenham win.

I hope Pochettino plays the 17-year-old – so we can finally see what all the hype is about.
