News: International star’s social media activity could indicate his future

|

Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen has dropped a heavy hint on social media that he is ready to commit to the club and sign a new deal.

After his sides 4-0 drubbing of Crystal Palace the 32-year-old liked a tweet that asked him if he wanted to sign a new contract – to extend his spell with Spurs.

There have been rumours all summer about Vertonghen’s contract situation with the 32-year-old desperate to sign a new contract, but it seems the Spurs’ board are not so keen on handing out a contract to someone who turns 33 before the season ends.

Tottenham also have ongoing contract issues with Christian Eriksen and Toby Alderweireld – all three of these are crucial to Tottenham’s side, and if they are allowed to leave for nothing or on cut-price deals then those at the top of the club should hang their heads in shame.

Vertonghen, for example, is a world-class defender and even though he is ageing, he is still someone who can be totally relied upon to deliver for Spurs.

The board may not be keen because he is on big wages and isn’t getting any younger, but a one-year deal would prove to be very popular with many Spurs fans.

Certainly, the Belgian wants to stay, and Tottenham should extend his contract and resolve this silly situation.
