News: 23-year-old midfielder is the best in the league at this one key part of the game

|

According to stats collected by WyScout Harry Winks is the top passing midfielder in the Premier League this season.

He has completed 283 passes, so far, which works out as an average of 79.38 per game – only Aymeric Laporte averages more at 81.3 per game.

Winks is miles ahead of the midfield competition with Norwich City’s Moritz Leitner the closest with 73.16.

Jorginho, one of the Premier League’s pass masters, is way behind Winks with only 66.04.

Now some fans would argue that this proves nothing and if the passes are going backwards and sideways it doesn’t matter, but the stats show that Winks plays 15.24 of his passes forward – the highest percentage in the league, so this perception that the 23-year-old is too safe is not backed up by the stats.

This season Winks has started every game, and it looks like he will be a pivotal part of Tottenham’s plans this season.

Certainly, these statistics show that the England international is crucial for recycling the ball and building from the back.

Winks seems to be growing into the season, and just before the international break he turned in his most accomplished performance against bitter rivals Arsenal, and he is fast becoming one of Spurs’ most important players.
