Mauricio Pochettino eyes highly-rated 22-year-old, ‘Tottenham scout’ u21 international

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Mauricio Pochettino is eyeing Joachim Andersen, with a ‘Tottenham scout’ reportedly being present at Sampdoria’s Serie A meeting with Genoa over the weekend. Spurs have been linked with Andersen before, with the future of Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld being uncertain, but there’s been no progress other than reported interest.

With Vertonghen and Alderweireld no closer to extending their respective contracts, the pair could be on the move from Tottenham. Anderson is a highly-rated mooted replacement who has been a key player with Sampdoria this season, featuring in all 13 of the Serie A outings.

There were reports that Spurs and Sampdoria held talks over the defender’s future, but a bid won’t be lodged until Tottenham are satisfied that Andersen is the right transfer target. Prior to his 2017-move to Italy, the 22-year-old made 50 appearances for FC Twente Enschede.

Andersen boasts a lot of experience despite his young age and Tottenham are clearly paying some interest in his progress, but a move may not come about until Pochettino is certain to be losing at least one of his existing players. Spurs are able to trigger 12-month extensions on Vertonghen and Alderweireld’s contract, so they may not need reinforcements until the 2019/20 season.
