Ben Davies names which ‘quality’ Tottenham player ‘was excellent against Chelsea’

|

Ben Davies was full of praise for Moussa Sissoko after Tottenham’s 3-1 win over Chelsea on Saturday. The left-back called the French midfielder “quality” and said he “was excellent” against the Blues. Sissoko has enjoyed a rich vein form this season and is one of the first names on the Tottenham teamsheet. And after helping to end Chelsea’s unbeaten record this season, Davies lauded his teammate.

As per the Evening Standard, he said: “I thought he was excellent against Chelsea. He’s really showing the quality he’s got, but we never had any doubts about what he can bring to this team. He got a bit of flak, sometimes unfairly, and he became a scapegoat when we didn’t perform at our best. But I thought on Saturday, and during this entire season, he’s been excellent, so we’re delighted for him. If you can come back from that, you can do anything.”

Sissoko has made 11 appearances in all competitions this season, starting Spurs’ last six Premier League outings for his troubles. The 29-year-old has played centre-midfield and right-midfield under Mauricio Pochettino and has been highly industrious in games.

He’s a box-to-box player, reliable in possession, often combative in the tackle and creative in the final third, so it’s not hard to see why Pochettino likes Sissoko so much. Since his 2016-move from Newcastle United, the midfielder has made 92 appearances across the board and has finally found his place in the side.

With Victor Wanyama and Mousa Dembele struggling with injury, Sissoko has stepped up to the plate and delivered. He’s part of a four-man midfield containing Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Eric Dier and is enjoying the best club form of his career. Davies is delighted to see him flourishing.
