Match Thread – Spurs Won’t Want To Look Like Plovdiv’s At The End Of This 90 Minutes

|

With Tottenham Hotspur opening up the 2020/21 Premier League campaign with a very disappointing defeat to Everton on Sunday, attentions quickly turn to our Europa League Qualifying Second Round tie against Lokomotiv Plovdiv on Thursday.

Qualifying rounds are never the nicest and you generally tend to meet a few teams who, with the greatest of respect, you’ve never actually heard of before, so whilst the assumption is usually ‘a cricket score’ – the matches themselves can often play out quite differently.

Manager Jose Mourinho will be looking for a comfortable and steady victory here to boost spirits and bed in our new signings but it’s definitely one of those games for fans where it’s an ‘avoid a banana skin’ moment at all costs and if it’s not pretty, just scrape through somehow.

Plovdiv...

Win

Draw

Lose

That’s probably never been more true after our opening day defeat as after last season’s struggles, we need some confidence and momentum as it still hasn’t quite clicked for the manager formerly known as the ‘Special One’.

With that said, it’s never ‘just’ the manager, it might be early doors and some players take a bit longer than others to get up to speed, but there surely can’t be any excuses for this one….can there?

German striker Jurgen Klinsmann spent two years at White Hart Lane in separate spells, but how many league goals did he contribute?

TQ2… one point no one has said yet. We have the best defensive coach in Ledley King. He will help improve Tanganga and sanchez / dier.

Bale will add an uplift in the squad’s mojo, and the new LB will add to a solid left side defensive / attack. So once bale has regained fitness and shows what he can do, we will be improving or form and PL points, as well as cups run. COYS

Good morning block……firstly let me say, I worshipped The King as a player and he is a decent guy too. That said, you can’t coach natural ability you can only coach someone in the techniques of defence which might produce a good defender but to be great a player needs that extra bit of magic which you either have or dont have, it can’t be gained by coaching no matter how good the coach.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Jim White, who must be one of the best connected sports commentators, says his contacts have told him that Bale is definitely happening, just a matter of time needed to sort out money matters.

Gr8 point B108 – I think I might have mentioned it in the past but certainly not recently so kudos and yes between Ledders and JM they should definitely via constant coaching and drilling be able to improve the likes of Tanganga and Davy especially but even Dier also!

Like I say and I’ll stick to it – I think going with what we’ve got ATM for me it’s Toby/Dier and then Davy/Tanganga – we need to have that balance of pace also in the CB partnership especially if our 2 full-backs are going to be marauding fwds like Doherty and hopefully Reguila will do, etc.

Gagging to hear the pair of them announced and then some – also very interested still in outgoings (potential sales/loans, etc) and then how everything fits once all settled!

Potentially good times ahead already shortly God Willing and please God let it be so LOL…………..!

  • El Jefe says:

Even Foyth and Fagan-Walcott, Sess and Cirkin plenty to learn from these 2 defensive great’s in Ledders and JM – if they all stick around of course…………..!

  • El Jefe says:

TQ – great post BTW also – personally would love Umtiti – what a statement of intent if we could bring him in on loan similar to the likely deal for Bale on top, etc – bloody hell………….!

Of course not that there’s been any mention of Umtiti – just me dreaming of course LOL………..!

I’m on the fence re Bale. I’m with PY/TQ in a way, getting a name like Bale in would be great for morale.
He can be that guy who can conjure up a bit of magic out of nothing “in his day”
That’s where I’m with DH, has his day passed has his candle gone out, and is this just a vanity project.
I sincerely hope not. If we even get 80% of what we used to have I think it’s a good deal.

  • 123spurs says:

Ej, we have super attackes but we dont play like that, so why you think it would be any different with full backs, jose doesn’t attack.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

If nothing else the thought of facing bale will scare the s h i t out of some of our opponents! 🙂

  • 123spurs says:

Ej, we have fast attackers but we dont play like that, so why you think it would be any different with full backs, jose doesn’t attack. He only attacks his players

  • Hot Tottingham says:

    Back to tomorrow…

Tanganga is still out. Aurier has picked up a knock. Lo Celso has trained.

Josh King is still unavailable. Dele has done a runner. Last but not least; Bale is out for the rest of the season after a serious golfing incident with a No.9 iron!

    Taxi for Jose!

  • wentworth says:

Come on Levy get these deals over the line. No procrastinating or faffing around. Let those moths out of your wallet and take some risks. Spurs fans need something to lighten the gloom brought about by the grumpy Jose even if he cannot coach an attacking team. We have few world class players. Onwards and upwards.

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

Looking forward to seeing Bale tracking back and fulfilling his defensive duties before he even thinks about crossing the half way line.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

DH….he will be on Jose’s favourites list so won’t need to track back. 🙂

  • 123spurs says:

picture this, jose is bale’s caddy, bale takes out driver, its a long par 5, jose hands bale a 3 iron.

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

123spurs – Bale decides he needs a new caddy and goes with the driver.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

An ex work colleague and golfing partner nicknamed me 3 iron, I never was much good with woods or metal drivers but used to out drive him regularly with my 3 iron. 🙂

  • PompeyYid says:

Here we go the golf jokes, mmm! lol! COYS

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Reguilon apparently set to be anounced tomorrow, happy with that.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

Okay, hands up who has voted for a draw vs Plovdiv? It’s a knock-out match! We can only win or lose…

    Plovdiv 0-0 Spurs!

I mean 0-6! ….. To Spurs, of course!
