Vital Spurs Debate Section

Match Thread – Spurs Roll The Dice Again Ahead Of Vitesse But You Wouldn’t Say Our Odds Have Improved

|

With Tottenham Hotspur registering back to back losses once again in the Premier League with the frustrating 3-0 defeat to Manchester United at the weekend, news on Monday of Nuno Espirito Santo’s departure from the club probably didn’t come as a great surprise to anyone.

Wherever you sit on the Nuno debate, there were obvious flaws with his handling of the group and with the players just not stepping up for him, there was a sense of unavoidable inevitability about it.

This of course means we now head into preparations for our Group G clash with Vitesse managerless as the merry-go-round has once again begun, and after October’s slip up against them, we simply couldn’t stomach another defeat if we hope to try and top the table.

With speculation returning about talks being held with Antonio Conte, whether he (or a new face) will be in place by Thursday is open to debate but whoever it is has got a massive job on their hands.

What will be will be, as the ditty goes, we just have to hope our next gamble pays off because the decision makers aren’t going to sack themselves are they.

German striker Jurgen Klinsmann spent two years at White Hart Lane in separate spells, but how many league goals did he contribute?

LT snap out of it, winning league is a fantastic achievement, if doing so you are playing well and best team in the league. Entertainment is the bonus

  • 123spurs says:

You are not going to be entertainment for 36000 minutes. Agree with Allen big chance to win this competition.

  • 123spurs says:

    Entertaining enough for everyone

  • 123spurs says:

Sadly alot of these players are lacking the basics, so it don’t matter who is in charge.

  • 123spurs says:

Kane regs lucas very sloppy and poor, skip berg Romero top of the class.

  • Love totty says:

The point 123 is that enjoying the actual game is why we watch, read the reports, argue in the pub and even go on forums like this. Obviously we want to win every game and come out on top of every competition and feel that ongoing satisfaction of success. Would you choose to forego watching or reading reports of the actual games for a year if a genie promised you a title? If the answer is yes then you aren’t really a fan at all.

  • 123spurs says:

What are you talking about. I woukd call u a fan either, people like you make us a laughing stock. You play to win the competition, no trophy for playing sexy footie

  • 123spurs says:

    Sometimes you gotta win ugly

  • 123spurs says:

Stupid foul after been on a yellow. Wel one to spursy land conte, these players don’t deserve conte as their manager

  • Ossie says:

Great posts LT!! Strange game, I thought we was gonna win 6-0, now I’m just hoping for a won at least..

  • TK says:

Conte promotes Mason? A good move to make him look human. Or, he wants someone connected to the club around so he can ask him questions about how things have been done here. \

Anyway, it seems a nice gesture.

if today’s match gets blown, will it presage a Conte-out movement?

I’m unable to watch today, which may be just as well. Romero? Not a way to make a good opening impression on the new boss.

Let’s hope the Who were wrong and the new boss isn’t just like the old boss.

  • 123spurs says:

Well that was pretty spursy written all over it, LT glory over entertainment, just ask any player or manager what they would rather, and that’s your answer. Genies don’t exists so your point is pointless.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

    Well…….that was eventful!

I thought Kane might have got a lift from Conte’s arrival but he looked way off it again tonight. His running looks laboured and his closing down of the opposition half-hearted.

  • 123spurs says:

If spurs lost this game, if I was conte I’d resign.

  • Big Chiv says:

    Well it wasn’t boring!

If Antonio Conte didn’t realise before the extent of the challenge he’s taken on, he will do now. He has never lost after being three goals up, so thankfully his record is intact although it was touch and go at times.

A win, which was the minimum requirement and he has probably learnt a lot. Onwards and upwards now towards getting the real Spurs back.

  • TK says:

I didn’t see the match, but I’ve seen enough of HK this season to wonder if he isn’t playing like he’s got long-haul COVID. languishing about on the pitch with no energy and all…

  • 123spurs says:

Why can’t lucas control the ball,

    • Love totty says:

Not exactly bursting with A levels are you 123. We are spectators not players. Bit of a difference.

  • 123spurs says:

Big C far from entertaining more like spursy stupidty. I sure conte knows how spurs mentality is.

  • Allan says:

Well we were 2nd best after going 3 up .
Yes perhaps as more educated people than me think that we don’t give this comp any credence do they think that by rubbishing this comp we can concentrate on better comps and win them ? Lets see how we fair vs West Ham
We have been allowed to become 2nd best if not 3rd by Levy’s poor handling of the playing side of the club and it will take far more than Conte to give long suffering fans like me a positive view of the future .

  • TK says:

    Allan,

If we’re playing a match in any competition we need to play seriously. It’s ugly not to play when you’re playing.

I won’t be thrilled if we win this league. We ought to do so. But I’ll be disgusted if our lads pretend they’re too good to put in a real effort. If nothing else, we owe the opposing club the respect of playing seriously against them.
