Match Thread – Spurs Looking To Pacos Away de Ferreira To Move Out Of The Laughable Conference League

|

Given the turmoil at Tottenham Hotspur over the summer, few expected us to open up the 2021/22 campaign with such a flourish as we left Pep Guardiola crying into his Grecian 2000 (or is it Grealish £100million?) with a thoroughly well deserved victory on Sunday.

In the absence of Harry ‘will he, won’t he’ Kane, players stepped up and performed admirably against the reigning title holders and the ever reliable Son Hueng-Min secured us the win ten minutes into the second half.

It was a confidence booster and as we go into Thursday’s laughable Europa Conference League clash with Pacos de Ferreira, few will be expecting any difficulties as long as we again perform how we did on Sunday.

We might even have Kane back as he’s been named in the squad by manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

Two wins from two would set us up nicely for Nuno’s first return to Molineux at the weekend and it would certainly raise spirits with ongoing transfer sagas.

Pacos de Ferreira...

Win

German striker Jurgen Klinsmann spent two years at White Hart Lane in separate spells, but how many league goals did he contribute?

anyone got a dodgy stream to watch the match? I’ve got a dodgy connection so a dodgy stream seems about right.

in their last match Paços dominated possession and lost by three goals.

  • wentwoth says:

Pretty grim line up. Weak midfield.Let’s see what they can do

  • 123spurs says:

Still early days but 1 down, not much to look at stats wise in attack. Is spursy making a come back with the new manage team selection. So embarrassing if we get knock out in the 1st round. The bench is not worth looking at. Where is alfi devine.

  • 123spurs says:

    Santo out

  • wentworth says:

    First half report. Boring.
Doherty, Winks, Lo Celso pretty awful. Terrible defence to let in goal. Gil started brightly. No one shines. Pretty poor all round.

  • 123spurs says:

Italy defender if the year?. With winks playing I have no faith. If Santo keeps making the same mistakes he won’t last long.

  • 123spurs says:

Spurs and roma are the 2 biggest clubs in this competition.

  • Shroppie says:

    Who cares I hope
    We ditch this compo

  • 123spurs says:

Santo needs to take full responsibility for this result. Pathetic, this is as bad as good as city result was. No shots on goal with players on offer. This result just sums up this club in a nutshell.

  • wentworth says:

    Match report. Dreadful.
Zero shots on target. Awful passing. Poor Dane Scarlett had no support at all. Winks still tippy tappying. Lo Celso still falling over. Still awful crosses from Doherty. Not one player deserves a positive mention. Absolutely dire.

Shocking game.Waste of time. Should have switched off. Utter shambles.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

The match is over two legs, at one time a 1-0 loss in the away leg would have been considered ok and fully recoverable in the home leg. Let’s see what next Thursday brings before getting too carried away.

Tat said, it’s worrying that we seem incapable of scoring if we don’t have someone named Son or Kane on the pitch.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

    WW….sounds like I was lucky I couldn’t find a working stream! :- )

  • Danny Winter says:

Wish I hadn’t bothered – Spurs didn’t. Performance was about as good as my dodgy stream so I haven’t even seen the goal but that might be a good thing.

A couple of the kids did themselves justice I think but Nuno’s face said it all.

    Night all.

  • wentworth says:

TQ.. unfortunately I did. Such a complete waste of an evening. Totally depressing to see how bad we were. How can internationals like Winks, Lo Celso, Doherty, Davies be so awful? Those 4 should be on their bikes pronto.

  • TK says:

Well that’s beginning to look like one less competition to worry about. Pećos de Ferriera? Now in the record book with a win against Spurs. Oh, well. Now let’s get on with the saga of the sale of Harry and his dream of being the prodigal son of the holy spirit. What a day!

  • Allan says:

Well I don’t agree with the negative opinion ref this comp
We qualified so let’s win it
The performance tonight was pathetic and shows our lack of quality beyond the first team
You can decry this comp as much as you like winning it would give us some silverware
I feel that we are no where good enough even to get 4 in the league
The City game was the usual result leading to poor performances later in the season leading to a poor league position
I wait to be convinced by Levy’s transfer dealings and feel that we are still a mediocre team
I am sure that those who cannot accept others opinions will ignore my reasonable comments

  • TK says:

If Harry was watching, he’ll surely go on strike rather than play with this lot. Hope our possible signees weren’t paying attention.

  • TK says:

Kane to return to the line up next Thursday vs. Peças de Ferriera to score the only two goals as we sweep into the next round of (what’s it called again?0 and Levy promises that if we fail to win the (what’s it called again?), he definitely promises to let Kane go to the good Citizens of Manchester (or perhaps to Turkey or to China or even to Peças de Ferriera) where he can win win win to his heart’s content. So, all we’ve got to do now is to win this damned (what’s it called again?) and Kane is ours ours ours (until Kane’s brother complains that he though Levy was promising we’d win the CL this season, not the (what’s it called again?). The problem, it seems is that Kane’s brother doesn’t know one competition from another in football. Indeed, the shocking news is that the bro doesn’t even know the name of (what’s it called again?).

  • Geofspurs says:

I didn’t watch the game and most reports are less than satisfying. That said, the result needs to be put in perspective.

Firstly, it does not detract from our win over City. We had a different eleven on the pitch.

Secondly, the result was only 0-1 and there is a home game to come. Nuno has the players to progress in this competition if he wants to.

Thirdly, the game gave Nuno a close look at the fringe members of his squad. That has to be good. It might even prompt some action in the TW. That has to be better.

Fourthly, the first (?) eleven will be fresh when they play Wolves.

Seventhly, I have a problem with maths.

I don’t see any reason, or even any point, in feeling ‘down’ about this result. Now, let’s beat Wolves!

  • TK says:

There is nothing in your post of 10:53 to suggests and deficiency in maths, Geof. Your conclusion that there is nothing to feel down about is spot on. Nothing in maths would challenge this feeling. And the main group hasn’t been drained by playing today. And Harry will score two goals next Thursday to keep us in this odd competition. (What’s it called again?)
