Match Thread – Spurs Look To Get Back On Track As We Welcome Villa To Our Home

|

Well, it’s that time of the week again where Tottenham Hotspur fans turn their attentions back to our stuttering Premier League campaign.

With a flying start under new head coach Nuno Espirito Santo, performances were still a worry and we are now on a run of three straight (heavy) losses. Welcoming improved Aston Villa to White Hart Lane for Sunday’s afternoon action is not going to be an easy task with the Midlands side having secured back to back victories over Everton and Manchester United.

However, with a much improved showing in the midweek Europa Conference League clash with NS Mura, we should come into the tie with renewed confidence – particularly so for Harry Kane following his hattrick on Thursday evening.

In advance of proper team news, we should be largely as we were, as it’s not expected that Steven Bergwijn will return for this one, but Ben Davies is also likely out having missed the midweek game with suspected appendicitis.

We have the quality for all three points here, we just have to hope we turn up.

Tottenham Hotspur's foundations lie in another sport, which one?

    Geof,

Socrates really was a great footballer. And one hell of a human being. Not the one who was Plato’s teacher, of course. The one who played football. And was a medical doctor.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

But, Plato was apparently a very good goalkeeper… A Greece international no less.

Here he is, on the losing team, versus Germany.

    I meant winning team!

  • Hot Tottingham says:

I said that I wasn’t interested in watching the midweek ECL game. But when I saw the line-up, I changed my mind.

I can’t say that I’m that interested in watching this game today. But I will. (If I can get a decent stream that is).

But, I’m not confident. I can see another loss. Not because Villa are such a great side. They’re not. But, they’re a good side, and they’ve looked a lot better than we have looked in the last 3 PL matches.

But, football can surprise us. And Spurs are more than capable of turning things around and showing a marked improvement… And Villa ain’t no Man City!

    I won’t pick a team. I won’t predict a scoreline. I’ll just wait and see what happens.

Please THFC, give me back my enthusiasm.

    Up the Spurs!

Im actually too nervous to watch, I’m tired of Spurs ruining my Sundays, they owe the fans, just go out there and play like you care lads, I’m not optimistic but let’s see.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

That pretty much sums up my feelings as well HT.

  • Geofspurs says:

TK …. I know, and I agree. I’m just having difficulty trying to connect either of them to the Spurs/Villa game. lol

  • Geofspurs says:

TQ …. Spurs WSL game is my back-up plan. Actually I’m not even sure yet which one I’ll watch first.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Hi Geof, I have a similar dilemma with both our men and women kicking off at the same time. Just to add to the difficulty my rugby team Exeter chiefs kick off at Sale Sharks at 3.00pm! I’m not sure I will find a working stream for the Villa game so may have to make do with radio/text commentary for that.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Watford sack their manager, must be some consolation to Nuno that he won’t be the first to go! lol

  • Hot Tottingham says:

How many Watford manager firings, in the past couple of seasons, is that now?! 4 or 5 or 6 ?!?

I thought I’d check the most recent ones stats and compare them to Nuno’s. Munoz, as the Watford manager for just under a year, had won 14 from 19 matches! Can this be right?! I know that he helped them to promotion but that their PL start isn’t great. BUT!

That surely has got to be as good a winning percentage, as anyone else in the PL!

Good luck to the next one. And good luck to Nuno!

  • Geofspurs says:

HI TQ …. I currently subscribe to Optus Sport which gives me all PL and WSL games live or on demand for $15 per month (maybe around 10 pounds UK?). Isn’t there a similar service provider available in the UK? The fact that, over a twelve month period, I can watch all of these games for less than it would cost me to attend one game in person quite amazes me. Maybe technology isn’t as bad as I thought. lol

I enjoyed Chelsea in the WSL yesterday. I will enjoy Spurs in the WSL today because they are evolving. I’m not confident about enjoying the Spurs and Villa game at all. But were all masochists …. what can you do? lol

    • PompeyYid says:

Geofspurs have you got you funny head hat on? we are the most ripped off nation on the planet, so my answer to your question no we haven’t, but do pay loads to see our own team once in a while, total crap here in Blighty. COYS

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Watching the Rennes v PSG game, Poch’s side 2-0 down early in the second half. Maybe he will be looking for a new job in the near future! 🙂

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Geof, you have to subscribe to Sky Sports, BT Sport, and Amazon Prime either individually or as a package to get all of the games live here. It cuurently costs me £35 per month for the first two but I got that at a fairly good discount, I think the full price of the two would be about £55 per month at least.

Today’s game wasn’t selected for TV here, Sky are showing the Palace v Leicester match at the same kick-off time and of course the big one later. If our WSL match isn’t being shown live on Sky or the BBC I can watch it live through th FA Player.

  • 123spurs says:

Poch 2 down to a team called rennes, with messi neymar, mbappe, no shots on goal.

Much needs points and a good performance, let’s see if the players have Nuno’s back.

  • TK says:

Ah, HT, thanks for the Monty Python link. That was a classic classic riff, the philosopher’s footie team. Of course, the motivation for the piece was the play of Socrates performance in the WC for one of the most brilliant teams of all time.

Personally, the worst effect of the slide downwards in the stnading of our Spurs is the relative absence on the tellit. i’m in NYC right now and no coverage of Spurs.

Anyone with a pirate link, please post the URL. I’d watch even if the performance is a horror. My Spurs, in health or in sickness.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Not sure about playing Ndombele, back to no creativity in midfield again.

  • 123spurs says:

Neymar, messi, mbappe no shots on goal in 97 minutes. I for one would def stay away from poch.

  • TK says:

    123,

I wonder what Rennes is doing defensively. To hols a team with those players to no shots on goal. Wow!

  • TK says:

over 60% of pssession. clean sheeted first half. goal. hope this doesn’t indicate a second half disaster. It’s that kind of season.

Keep the eyes of the prize, lads.

    Don’t make stupids changes, Nuno.

any reports from you lads on what the match looks like. i’m linkless.

  • Geofspurs says:

Playing fairly well so far. Lot more energy and pressing. Keep it up boys!

    Thanks for that TQ.
