Match Thread – Spurs Fans Can’t Take Much Mura This Following Another Heavy Defeat

|

I think probably the less said about Tottenham Hotspur’s trip to the Library to face Arsenal in the North London Derby at the weekend is probably for the better, so let’s quickly turn our attentions towards NS Mura in Thursday’s Group G Europa Conference League clash.

We will undoubtedly see plenty of rotation again under head coach Nuno Espirito Santo, as despite growing calls for a change, I don’t see the club pulling the rug just yet, but pressure is undoubtedly growing and of more concern than the results of late, the performances are chalk and cheese to what we know this squad is capable of…even if we all accept we need significant improvement.

I know absolutely nothing about our next opponents other than what I’ve read on Wikipedia but with no disrespect meant, a Slovenian side with a Stadium capacity of circa 5500 leaves me thinking of a backwater club that will be physical and competitively ugly. Everything says it should be an easy victory but these are exactly the kind of European games that catch sides out and leave players not enjoying the trip.

This is another behind the settee game in my book, but we surely can’t lose again…can we?

NS Mura

Win

Draw

Lose

German striker Jurgen Klinsmann spent two years at White Hart Lane in separate spells, but how many league goals did he contribute?

In the end an excellent result vs a side who did give our 2nd string something to think about .
A great pity that Nuno had to bring on the big guns to produce an emphatic score line . Hopefully Mura will go away having learnt something but also have my respect for trying and nearly succeeding in embarrasing us .
Surely all Euro comps give the weaker teams a chance to play against quality opposition and that is why I support this comp and hope we can win it .

    Hi folks,
Yet again re the pundits, I named some JJ and Hoddle, as (for me) they are mostly pro Spurs and I can’t in all honesty see them having an axe to grind.
As I said I mostly use Hoddle as an example, after all he has played and manged, Spurs, Chelsea and at international level, I was using him for his knowledge as both from a players and managers perspective.
Plus I do think he has some ITK.
For me I do respect the likes of Hoddle for reasons mentioned above.
So to that end I think he knows more than me about football, just like a brick layer knows more than me about building a house.
Note I never used Ian Wright or Alan Shearer.
Back to last nights game, I thought we did well in both halves, the young fella Gill looked pretty good, at times, it was lower opposition and as, I said we may have closed them off anyways.
But Bringing on Moura, Sonny and Kane sealed the deal.
Yes Harry played exceptionally well, that what I would like him to do in the premiership.
As I said in an earlier comment we had about 14 shots 7 on target, I don’t expect 5 goals or a hatrick in any game but a few shots on target are great.
We won it was entertaining I enjoyed it.
    Hopefully we’re back on track..

Pretty good post there Niall, hope your keeping well?, for me poor stats really, but if am right we didn’t have a shot at goal from outside of the box until the 30 minute, Reggie off target over the bar, which was closely followed by Dele, whose shot though on target was saved by their GK.

I actually thought we should really have peppered their goal with shots considering the opposition.

I actually thought, regards the 1st half….first 10mins or so yippee attacking fast football thus a goal feast, 2nil up, but not to be, the next 35+mins bored me shitless, with me thinking ere we go again! the Spurs side thinking we have won this its a walk in the park, ditto the same for the first 15mins of the 2nd half, plus conceded, all change with subs, but for the life of me why did we have to bring on the big guns? answer the others were just not doing it, no fight no battle in general, very laxidaisical.

As the saying goes “Euston we have a problem!” substitute for Spurs!

Mind I will go as far as to say, you can only play/beat what’s in front of you, we did win comfortably…eventually. COYS

We all experience and see the world differently. What’s obvious for one person is missed by another. Sometimes a pundit sees something that I’ve missed but once pointed out seems obvious to me. Other times I see something that’s obvious to me but not noticed by others. Now that’s the most frustrating.

It wasn’t the expert pundits who noticed that the Emperor was stark naked–it was the little boy. But that time that the experts noticed the queen was wearing a hat that didn’t match her shoes? Now only the experts could see that.

I listen to the pundits. Sometimes it’s worth it because they alert me to something I hadn’t noticed. other times it’s worth it because they’se so damned stupid it gives me the opportunity for a good rant. What more could I ask for? To be assisted to see what I’m missed seeing? Or to be told the obiousl? Ot to be told something that’s obviously wrong to me.

    I’ll take them all gladly.

    Hi PY
All OK this end, I’m much the same opinion as you m8.
However I must admit that I was glancing at the 1st half as I was setting up an electric fire for “Er indoors” fekin couldn’t get the glass front back on right, was in the wrong hole (oohhh er missus)
But fixed for the 2nd half.
Trust you and Mrs PY are keeping well.
Looking forward to the weekends game COYS.

  • PompeyYid says:

Hey Niall, great minds eh! lol!

Me and Mrs PY are fine, mind she had an eye opp yesterday, to remove a large cataract and fit a new “plastic” lens, all went good, got aftercare things todo everyday for 8 weeks, 2 diff’ types drops 4 x a day.
Balance not good at mo, so having the other eye done in a month’s time. Bless her!

Bet ya missus wasn’t happy about the wrong hole then Lol!

Looking forward to the Villa game, that’s yes and a no!

Think Nuno needs to stick to the 4231 formation, but the lads n lassies, or rather some of them are big girls blouses, need to up their movement, passing prowess and die for the badge n shirt on the field of play, so here’s bloody hoping. COYS

There are long waiting lists for stuff like that over here.
Our NHS was a shambles even before COVID, long story.
So get the treatments while you can.
Re last night I just saw, a couple of cameos from young Gill, a few bits of silky skill reminiscent of Ginola and Lo Ceslo did have a pretty good game.
Just hoping we’re starting to come together.

  • TK says:

Having watched Lo Celso looking like he knows what he’s doing when playing in Argentina, I always wonder why I rarely see the same at Spurs. He needs to play up the pitch where he’s encouraged to pass into the box. The man has more talent that we’ve seen most of the time on the pitch.

As fans we do not require comments from so called experts to describe the rubbish footie we have been served in the past 2 seasons . After all we do not know what is really going on behind the s enes .
I find it difficult to understand well argued fans on this site taking any notice of these ” experts ”
Basically we know possible solutions and they all stem from Levy’s poor grasp of what makes a successful side .
Lovely stadium and excellent traing facilities do not equate with football success .
He has been a footballing disaster .

With all due respect, just because a ton of people agree on something still doesn’t mean they are right. Most people used to believe the earth was flat at some point (some might still do, but may god help them).

I also don’t thin an opinion should be worth more because it comes from someone who is in theory “pro Spurs”. That just means the opinion is biased from the get-go, as far as I’m concerned. Sometimes, opposing fans can make a lot of sense because they see something more objectively from the outside.

I tend to agree with Geof’s take on punditry.

We’ll all see it differently and choose to value different sources differently. I still don’t see how that is arrogant, but that’s another discussion.

  • TK says:

The pundits tend to be no worse than the commenters on here, but no better also. The opinions of human beings generally are bollox, but we still like to tell people what we think. the only opinions that really matter are from those In-TK. Those in the the know, they know. So trust in TK.

  • 123spurs says:

If you look at all these so called expert pundits, such as carragher, neville Keane etc, last 2 failed as managers most people belive they are right in what they are saying. For me with all their talk, why do they puy their money where their mouth is and actually manage a team. They disagree on camera for clicks and views and cause a stir.
