Match Thread – Spurs Eye Leeds & Will The Break Help Conte Solve Our Scoring Issues

|

New Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has an unbeaten record as we go into the November international break, but with a troublesome performance in our victory against Vitesse added to what is now four odd hours without a Premier League goal given the scoreless draw with Everton, he’s got his work cut out for him as we now move towards the Leeds United clash.

With Everton being yet another game without a single shot on target, Conte certainly won’t be helped with our international attackers off for duty – not least misfiring Harry Kane – so his chances of a quick fix over the break will be patchy at best. Everton was, however, a clean sheet, which is a start after more recent leaky performances, but any fan would be hard pushed to say it was a performance you’d have expected to see following the appointment of a ‘name’ like Conte.

For many, that will be a troublesome development of its own as we look to these players and continue wondering why they are now consistently underperforming based on how we know they can play.

It’s an important fortnight, and all we can do is cross our fingers.

Can Conte Turn Spurs Around?

Yes, With Time

No, It's Time For The Players To Take The Blame

But there would be a distinct difference Geof…….we have been looking for backup to Kane for many seasons which will have put some potential players off, if we were selling Kane we would be offering a replacement the number one slot.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Not sure about the new format, bit of a pain having to scroll to the bottom of the first page to switch to the current page.

  • Geofspurs says:

TQ …. That’s true. Good point. I hope it makes a difference should things move in that direction.

  • Geofspurs says:

The new format seems designed in a way that shows us more ads. Sign of the times. I blame Levy!

  • TQ2Spurs says:

That’s likely the case Geof, they also haven’t fixed a refresh delay when a new page is created.

I think our interest in Vlahovic has two aspects, he is only 21 but already performing well in Serie A so for me fulfills our need for either a current or a future replacement.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Bit of a one-sided match yesterday Geof, how the mighty have fallen in regards to City. I suppose you have to have some sympathy with them for the number of top players that have been out injured.

  • Niall D says:

Hi folks some good points here,
I put another argument forward here, Kane was injured around March (maybe) two seasons ago I think it may have been the CL year, we scored the same amount of goals without him that with him in the team, last season something similar happened, however unfortunately Sonny got injured at the same time which severely restricted our goal threat.
However that does not detract from from HK’s obvious goal scoring ability.
But it could be argued that we couldn’t get a decent replacement or partner for HK for that very reason.
As others have said here, It’s all well and good having the likes of HK banging goals in 20 ish a season.
However the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool, we’re getting good goal stats from other areas on the pitch ie midfield.
Which is what I and several others were banging on about, but to get those players in, unfortunately we needed to sell Kane.
I do agree that, recruitment was an issue and indeed has led us to this conondrum.
And perhaps the focus on the stadium has indeed been our down fall.
But for what ever reason, and we all have our theories, Kane hasn’t shown up to the party (for Spurs) this year, I’m saddened by it.
I don’t particularly wish to debate it any more and will step away from this one and respect the various, opinions.

What’s wiv this new format, if it aint broke why try n mend it, I hate bloody change lol!

  • TQ2Spurs says:

PY…..Geof reckons it’s so they can get more adverts in! lol

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Hojbjerg not in the Denmark squad tonight, is he injured?

  • TQ2Spurs says:

What a great future England have potentially with the likes of Bellingham, Smith-Rowe, Gallagher and Saka and others.

  • Geofspurs says:

TQ …. Yes, City have been unlucky with injuries. I think they are out of the running for the title now. Looks like it’s between Arsenal and Chelsea. I really enjoy watching the way Chelsea play (it still seems weird to say that!!)

  • BelgianSpur says:

So that 7 goals in 2 games for HK, albeit against modest opposition. Let’s hope his form carries over to Spurs now.

  • PompeyYid says:

BS….modest opposition, bit of an understatement eh! lol!…COYS

    • BelgianSpur says:

Sure ,but it’s not like he’s never scored against big teams in big games… If he is “in the zone”, he can score against anyone. Let’s hope this is the precursor to a purple patch for THFC…

Our next games are against Leeds, NS Mura, Burnley, Brentford, Norwich, Rennes, and Brighton.

  • block 108 spurs says:

It is a modern thing now as marketing ads are necessary, on web sites.

HK10 needed the england goals last 2 games, regardless of the opposition quality, as it gets him back into goal scoring mode…I’m sure conte has seen his 7 goals and will work on the supply from MF / wing backs to allow harry to keep him scoring (mojo) in the opposition 25 yrd area of their goal.

My prediction spurs 3 leeds 1 COYS

  • Geofspurs says:

BS …. Yes, but we’re not a one-man-team. We need a lot more players to ‘step up’. Kane can’t do it on his own …. which is what some supporters seem to expect.

  • 123spurs says:

Will any of our defenders get a goal. Set pieces are vital,

  • Danny Winter says:

Not been around for a few days again and it’s all change. Not on my big box so I’m guessing I might have missed an update or two. I’m not seeing any ads at all at the mo so guess it’s a work in progress, but do think this feels cleaner and to my eyes at least, it’s easier to read, although that wasn’t a problem before.

I scanned mention of ‘refresh’ again. Has that consistently come back for folks since the change or was it a one off?

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Hi Danny, regarding delayed refresh when a new page is created, this has been an issue since the last major update. Can we have the page navigation back at the top of the thread again please, it’s annoying having to scroll through page 1 to navigate to the current page everytime you open the article.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Danny, sometimes issues such as the delayed refresh can be browser specific.
