Match Thread – Can Spurs Boing The Baggies Or Do We Lose Four On The Spin

|

With three Premier League defeats on the spin, Tottenham Hotspur fans are again asking serious questions about our style of play and the spirit in the dressing room under marmite manager Jose Mourinho. No doubt for some, one big question is will this simply get worse on Sunday afternoon as we welcome Sam Allardyce’s struggling West Bromwich Albion to White Hart Lane.

Our style wasn’t too bad at the beginning of the season but whether or not it’s Mourinho’s instructions, the sheer number of games that we have played or something else, it long hasn’t clicked now and our attempts at grinding out 1-0 victories is completely undone by our failure to remain tight at the back.

We go into Sunday’s clash sat in eighth place in the PL table and irrespective of the fact we are again missing Harry Kane through injury, there can be no doubts that we have regressed as an attacking force.

It’s been a strange old season when you look at results across the division, but we look half the side we were even a month ago. On paper, West Brom sat almost bottom of the table should be the perfect boost we need to get ourselves up and running again, but after the Brighton showing, few will be confident of that.

Ho hum, I’ll be hiding behind the settee with a stiff drink.

German striker Jurgen Klinsmann spent two years at White Hart Lane in separate spells, but how many league goals did he contribute?

    DH
a few good shouts for replacement managers there, because of the “couple” of large defeats he has suffered and wouldn’t change tak, even when being battered by Man U, Hasanhutal wouldn’t be a choice for me.
Rodgers on the other hand is a good manager, tactician, he has decent European experience and has good cup final experience through Celtic, my only issue, with him is that on two occasions with both Liverpool and Leicester he sort of bottled his chances at the tail end of the season, but a good manager
Re Negellsman don’t know too much about him, seems a good manager who can progress young players. He does play fast athletic football I think his Leipzig team are currently 2nd.
Not sure how that compares, to the Premier league, but could be worth the risk.
The big question is would they be available, and would they come?
We are in the horns of a dilemma, if we do well, does JM stay, if we do poorly can we attract a decent manager and players to take us forward.

    Anyone but Mourinhosaurus.

Niall, “TK, Tell ya what I won’t tell you how to feel. You don’t tell me what’s funny.”

I never did tell you what is funny. Only that I was being humorous with no negative intentions concerning you. I as yet don’t quite know what made you so irritated with me. Aunt Gertrude and Billie and Bobby Shortsleeves were real people in my family. The expression about knowing where the bodies are buried has multiple metaphorical meanings. How was I to know that you would take the meaning literally. I meant no harm and I’m surprised by your negative response. By the way, I have–in the literal sense–visited the grade where their bodies are buried.

We are obviously at cross purposes here.
You don’t get where I’m coming from, that’s OK.
    Enjoy supporting Spurs your way.

  • TK says:

NIall: “I don’t like people trying to make a c#nt of me, I will defend myself. PY. Please excuse my tone.”

I’m astonished that you feel this way. My mind is boggled by this response. As I go back and re-read the thread, I find nothing that was intended–as you put it–to make a c#nt of you. My apology that I said something that brought about this response . I’d offer to buy you a pint in a pub, but no pubs are open these days, and i suspect that we’re thousands of km distant from one another. Fique frio, amigo. Chill, m8.

  • TK says:

by the way, we do have one obvious thing in common. When I feel dissed I will defend myself. so I do understand that. but truth be told I felt no desire to diss you. I think you’re right that we had a real disconnect of understanding. purposed crossed indeed. I hold no hostility to you. I just feel mystified. but then I’m sure I mystified you.

Pistols at dawn it is then! 🙂

  • TK says:

I’m not at my best at dawn! How about sharing a spliff in the evening?

  • Niall D says:

    Right TK
I’ll try one last time, see in primary school, there was an annoying kid who repeated everything you say just to be annoying.
Look at what you’re doing, your picking up on parts of my statements and printing them again, then appear critical of them.
You’ve done it over and over again.
I’ve said to let it go.
Re the dead bodies thing, it’s personal to me and not up for discussion.
As I said at cross purposes here.
    Forget it.
    Just enjoy supporting Spurs.

  • Geofspurs says:

You could both try ignoring each other. There are several more posters to talk to. Just saying ….

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Hi Geof……there were some unexpected results in the WSL at the weekend, it’s becoming almost as unpredictable as the PL!

    • Geofspurs says:

Yes, it was an interesting round. Kerr scored after 5 minutes for Chelsea and I expected a bucket load of goals to follow. They didn’t! I actually think the loss will do Chelsea some good. They’ve been unbeaten for a couple of years and, in a somewhat weird sense, they’ve got the monkey off their back.

I’m interested to see how Spurs progress during the rest of the season.

  • Niall D says:

Geof If you noticed I tried to move the subject several times m8.

  • Niall D says:

Just noted a report from Tony Cascarino. Interesting reading, couldn’t have put it better my self.

Niall, have you got your hat on, Brummie humour…pretty crap really lol.
I read that article in the Times, not my paper lol!, one of my oppo’s who does read it daily, brought it round for me to read, incidently very good article. COYS

  • TK says:

    Okay Niall,

I truly don’t understand what irritated you so much, but so be it. Let’s just ignore one another. You say what you want here and I’ll not read it if I see your name attached.

I never repeated what you said just to annoy you. I quoted so that you would know what I was responding to. At this point I can’t remember much of anything about what I was responding to or what I had to say about it. Now that I see how much something about it irritated you, I’ll ignore what you write and pass it by.

I’m not the kid who annoyed you when you were in primary school. I assume that was decades ago. Now I understand that your problem is with that kid, I’ll not raise those memories for you.

    Good bye.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

FA cup match, away to the Toffees tomorrow. Anyone fancy our chances of a win?

I can’t say that I’m all that confident myself. But you never know, do ya?

    • PompeyYid says:

Aw! come on HT, ever the optimist like me, we are going to win, through hell or high water, no doubts for me lol! Shall I get my coat! COYS

  • Hot Tottingham says:

Only If you need to go outside. Then I recommend that get yer coat! It’s cold and it’s snowing where I am. And I doubt it’s any warmer on the south coast…

    • TQ2Spurs says:

HT….you can bet your bottom dollar it isn’t, it’s blooming freezing down here on the so called English Riviera, we have had a light dusting of snow this morning down at sea level so there will no doubt be more just inland up on the moors.

    • PompeyYid says:

We had a dusting of the white stuff, nothing to write home about, a little bit chilly n windy, just wintry really, and a coat is necessary lol!

  • block 108 spurs says:

We all remember the game v everton at WHL this season…. So we have some motivation to win at their ground thursday. Jose will be reminding the players about it as well. With HK10 back we can see some more movement and quicker passing, with 2-1 win for spurs. COYS

  • Niall D says:

    HT,
I suppose it all depends on which Spurs turn up, and as PY and I were saying how much the Man U game affected Everton. As someone else said we took our foot off the pedal a bit after 70 min, I wonder is it with half an eye on Wednesdays game, we were sort of guilty of doing this earlier in the season it was effective but as usual hard to watch. Re Sundays game, a small positive (for me anyway) that we were able to break down a defensive set up, I’ve seen days where we weren’t able to do that.
But re the Everton game, hoping for the best expecting the worst.
    COYS.

  • 123spurs says:

Niall also, winks, lamela, lucas, stevie B. When last did any them score.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

To be honest block 108 spurs, I’m expecting JM to revert back to type for this one. And we’ll be seeing the usual sit-back-and-defend tactics from the not-so-special one.
