Manager Rebuffs CL Transfer Speculation About Spurs Midfielder

|

The other week it was suggested that Belgian side Club Brugge had an interest in taking midfielder Victor Wanyama off our hands ahead of the European transfer window shutting on September 2.

Belgian Sides Interest In Spurs Player Hinges On CL Involvement – But I Don’t Think It Does

The original claim was that Brugge could effectively only afford the deal if they qualified through to the Group Stages of this season’s Champions League campaign, but as originally said given their sales over the summer I certainly didn’t see that as being true.

With the speculation continuing, the Daily Record quote manager Phillipe Clement as confirming that talks are ongoing over a potential deal, but rubbishing the speculation that suggested any deal would hinge on CL qualification.

“Qualifying for the Champions League makes no difference to him whether he signs or not. I know not only his (physical) qualities, but also his mentality. Of course, he is not the only boy we are working on at the moment. You cannot put all the eggs in one basket. The decisive stage is the last days of the transfer period.”

The reports states that talks progressed over the weekend and have continued into this week, but Clement himself admitted that a deal wasn’t yet in place, but it can only really be a matter of time given how injuries have seen the 28-year-old Kenyan international slip down the pecking order for manager Mauricio Pochettino.
