Tottenham old boy Ossie Ardiles says that Spurs are good enough to beat Arsenal to fourth spot and secure a Champions League place next season.
The former Argentine and Spurs player, told The Mirror ‘I believe, realistically, Spurs should be in Europe and I think they can finish in the top four this season. Chelsea are far, far away from everyone else in England, and I would say that only Barcelona and Juventus could challenge their superiority in Europe.’
The Spurs legend continued: ‘But if you take away Chelsea then I think Spurs are becoming one of the teams on the next level. Arsenal and Manchester United are currently in transition but Spurs are improving all the time.’
Spurs are certainly in the ascendancy, long may it continue!
It seems that Spurs boss Martin Jol agrees. He has to date been reticent to boast about where Spurs could finish but he told the Mirror yesterday that the team are getting stronger.
“Mentally we are stronger and stronger. It will be hard to get into the top four but we can do that and if not we have to be strong enough to be in the top five.”
Adding that getting into Europe is “a big thing” for Spurs and that they are trying to build a squad capable of competing for “trophies and a place in the Champions League.”
