Latest on wing-back pursuit

|

After Sporting CP’s Pedro Porro and his coach, Ruben Amorim, were dismissive of the latest round of speculation linking the wing-back with a January move to Tottenham Hotspur, reports in Portugal today have emerged that Spurs are preparing a final move for the Spanish international this week.

That is according to Portuguese outlet Record (via Sport Witness), who clarify that although Spurs have so far been unwilling to meet Sporting’s €45 million valuation of Porro, the North Londoners have not been put off their pursuit of Porro, despite several murmurs that the rejection of their latest offer (€34 million and the foregoing of 50% of profits from any sale of Marcus Edwards).

Spurs are therefore expected to return for Porro again this week, but Sporting will not change their stance of continuing to insist that Porro’s clause be met. This is apparently because of a promise made to Amorim that no players will be sold mid-season for less than their given release clause, and also Sporting’s inherent belief that they can easily get at least €45 million for their man in the summer, particularly with Real Madrid and Porro’s former club, Manchester City, circling around the 24-year-old Spaniard.

However, with further doubt cast on Antonio Conte’s future this morning (read more about that here), it remains to be seen how exactly Spurs will approach the remaining 9 days of the transfer window, and the impact of this uncertainty on the pursuit of targets such as Porro.
