Kounde and Andersen wanted by Spurs – Fabrizio Romano

Despite the managerial situation still not being solved yet and the club remaining on course to begin pre-season without a head coach, Spurs are edging ever closer to a number of signings in a number of positions.

One area which has been a priority for the club for a while now is the centre back position, and a number of players have been heavily linked with moving to the club for the majority of last season and over the last few weeks since the season ended too.

Italian reporter Fabrizio Romano, who is widely regarded as one of the most reliable journalists in the world when it comes to transfers, today claimed that the club are looking for at least one addition in defence, with Joachim Andersen and Jules Kounde interesting Fabio Paratici.

“Tottenham are gonna sign one or two centre backs: Jules KoundΓ© is β€˜highly appreciated’ – he’s expected to leave for less than €80m clause. Also Andersen in the list.” said Romano, who also suggested the Nuno Espirito Santo deal for him to become the club’s next manager is not done yet.

Lyon defender Andersen, 25, was on-loan at Fulham last season and despite the West London club getting relegated, seriously impressed with his defensive work and leadership skills in a backline that was under constant attack every game.

The Danish centre-back is valued by the French club at around Β£25 million, and he looks set to remain in London with a move to Spurs very likely.

Kounde, on the other hand, is a transfer target who seems very unlikely to join the club, with Sevilla expected to demand not too much less than his €80 million release clause – but with Daniel Levy’s hard negotiating, it is ver possible that we may see him line-up in a lily-white shirt next season.

The French international is just 22-years-old, and featured 34 times in the La Liga last season alongside Diego Carlos, with whom he formed a brick-wall-like partnership at the back, conceding just 33 goals this season.

Both players, if they joined Spurs, would prove to be a statement of intent from the board, and they would definitely help fix the defensive issues at the club and bring back stability just in front of the keeper.
