Unnamed player set to sign for Spurs if approved by new manager

|

As the managerial ‘race’ continues to be taken in new directions with every passing day, more and more names begin to be linked with moves to Spurs.

In a report published by the Athletic today, an unnamed player is ready to become the first signing of the summer after agreeing a deal with the club – but he will only join after whoever becomes the new manager gives the green light.

In the report, the suggestion is that it is an in-demand senior international player, stating: “The international in question has been tracked by Tottenham Hotspur for a long time.”

The important question is, who could that mystery player be? We have done some research and here is our three top guesses:

Joachim Andersen

Lyon centre-back Andersen has been on Spurs’ wish-list for almost a year now after impressing on-loan at Fulham last season and at Sampdoria before moving to France.

The Dane is a wanted man after being told he can leave for the Premier League, and after settling in London, Spurs would be a logical move for him where he would also be lining up alongside compatriot Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg who has become a fan favourite at the club.

At 25-years-old, the defender would be a brilliant addition to the backline, and at about £25 million, he could prove to be good value for money should he settle at Spurs and pick up where he left off last season.

Marcel Sabitzer

Austrian playmaker Sabitzer has impressed for his country at the European Championships, earning him interest from the top clubs in Europe.

RB Leipzig were demanding £35 million before Sabitzer left for international duty, and at the time the transfer was reportedly 75% likely to happen with Spurs desperate to make him their replacement for Christian Eriksen.

The 27-year-old is in the prime of his career and scored eight goals in just 24 Bundesliga starts last season, as well as setting-up three – a number which is low by his standards.

Dusan Vlahovic

Vlahovic is a man who has rapidly become one of Spurs’ top targets, and while Fabrizio Romano has reported there is interest – nothing is concrete just yet.

However, The Athletic’s report came after Romano’s tweet, and in-between those developments, a report in the Italian media claimed that one team has made an opening offer for the Serbian striker, who scored 21 times in the Serie A last season.

The same outlet claimed Spurs are the only team right now who are interested that would be able and willing to pay Fiorentina’s £51 million asking price – which is interesting as Juventus and Liverpool are just two of the other teams interested an it also suggests that Spurs have a lot more money to spare than people first thought.
