With the Tottenham Hotspur rumour mill linking us to almost every single player on the planet so far this summer, it maybe be safe to assume that despite speculation linking us with a move for Bayer Leverkusen’s Julian Brandt that maybe we didn’t actually have an interest as the 23-year-old has now completed a switch to German giants Borussia Dortmund.
The versatile German international attacker has had a decent season in the Bundesliga and their Europa campaign, chipping in with ten goals across all competitions and 12 assists from what I can tell.
Spurs Linked With Creative Talent With £21.5m Release Fee – “Hope These Rumours Are True”
Despite hopes from the fanbase that our interest was genuine, journalist Ronan Murphy recently Tweeted.
Bayer Leverkusen have confirmed to SID that Julian Brandt is leaving for Borussia Dortmund. #BVB #B04

German outlet Bild’s coverage of the deal claims that Dortmund have now activated the 25 million Euro release fee in his contractand the press are leading with the ‘missed out’ angle.
As are plenty of fans, assuming either we tried to do the deal on the cheap or that the player himself lacked ambition and chose the easier route instead of testing himself in the Premier League.
Given our recent history with Dortmund I’m assuming some of the reactions are slightly tongue in cheek.
So it begins

Obviously wants the easier league ????

Such an inferior league wants an easy spot every week instead of working for it

I find it difficult to get upset about a player I know little about and have no guarantees we were in for in any event.
Onto the next one….or 18 pieces of speculation as it will no doubt be.
Spurs moving into pole position for 22-y/o bodes well for future this summer
