Interesting Comments From Spurs Man With Future Still Open To Debate

|

The topic of Toby Alderweireld’s future at Tottenham Hotspur is incredibly well trodden.

There’s no need for me to overly go back into history here – Manchester United, contract extension, buy out clause come next summer and no fresh deal yet agreed.

The 30-year-old remains popular on the rumour mill though, for entirely understandable reasons but the one thing Spurs fans know for sure is whatever his future holds, it hasn’t affected the Belgian internationals performances on the pitch and neither has it affected his passion in interviews when he talks about the club.

That remains true in a recent interview with the Daily Mail this week and whilst the Fail isn’t a regular read in this household, his words may give everyone a boost.

With Spurs booking their place in the Champions League quarterfinals with a pretty comfortable 4-0 aggregate win over Borussia Dortmund, it’s hoped that our next European match may take place back at the rebuilt White Hart Lane, and discussing that topic, Alderweireld commented.

“The new stadium will be massive for us and I hope we can play there in the next game. Even if we never played a game there it will be like our home. At Wembley, it’s difficult for the fans to come there and make it your home. Sometimes the stadium wasn’t full because the maximum on the capacity. Our fans are doing a massive job for us. In the last London derby at Wembley the atmosphere was incredible. Imagine that at the new stadium. There won’t be another club in the world like this.”

Will that last line prove to be prophetic, because if he believes that, why would he go anywhere else?
