What’s the latest on Giovani Lo Celso, Erik Lamela and Steven Bergwijn’s fitness?

|

Jose Mourinho confirmed to Football.London that Tottenham could welcome back Giovani Lo Celso and Steven Bergwijn ahead of Sunday afternoon’s meeting with Chelsea. Hugo Lloris could join the duo if he’s given the all-clear after suffering a knock in the week.

Spurs’ official website reported on Saturday evening that Erik Lamela could miss out with a foot injury and Toby Alderweireld will join him on the sidelines. He’s been ruled out of action with a groin injury and might be replaced by Japhet Tanganga or Davinson Sanchez at centre-back.

What’s the latest on Lamela?

The 28-year-old was picked in a protective boot earlier in November after injuring his foot. Lamela has made 10 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring two goals, but his last outing came in our 2-1 win over Brighton & Hove Albion (November 1).

Lamela missed our Europa League win over FC Ludogorets (November 5), 1-0 win over West Bromwich Albion (November 8), 2-0 win over Manchester City (November 21) and other Europa League win over FC Ludogorets (November 26). It’s unknown when he’ll return, but he said on Instagram that it will be a ‘short time’.

What’s the latest on Lo Celso?

Football.London say the 24-year-old picked up a small knock in training that caused him to miss Thursday’s meeting with Ludogorets.

Lo Celso’s injury isn’t serious and shouldn’t keep him out against Chelsea, however, so the Argentine international should make his 13th appearance of the season this weekend.

What’s the latest on Bergwijn?

The 23-year-old hasn’t played a lot of football in recent weeks due to injury and a lack of fitness. Bergwijn was sent home by the Netherlands during November’s international break for poor fitness levels and has been siedelined for Tottenham due to injury.

Since the beginning of October, Bergwijn has featured in only two of our six Premier League games. He’s expected to face Chelsea on Sunday afternoon, but it remains to be seen whether he’ll start. The Dutch international has hasn’t scored in any competition this season and hasn’t made an assist in the league, so Mourinho has a decision to make.
