Toby Alderweireld was a standout performer for Tottenham against Brighton & Hove Albion on Tuesday evening and was praised by supporters on social media. The 30-year-old continues to put in solid performances in defence, helping Spurs keep clean sheets in three of their last four Champions League knockout games and having a hand in two of the three Premier League shutouts in April.
Against Brighton, Alderweireld played a full 90 minutes, made 105 touches, 92 passes with 90% accuracy, created two chances, whipped in two crosses with 50% accuracy, boasted a 100% record from his long passes, won two aerial duels, had three shots and hit the woodwork, made one successful dribble, three clearances and two tackles. He was dominant at the back and a threat in attack.

Fans are desperate for the Belgian international to sign a new contract, but Alderweireld is currently set to leave Tottenham in 2020. He’s made 44 appearances in all competitions and his form doesn’t appear to have been affected by the speculation. Spurs’ win over Brighton sees them in pole position to finish in the Champions League places, opening up daylight between them and Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United.
